Hi i'm about to do my first RGH when royal mail opens again after the bank holidays, I have been reading and practicing for a while but there's one thing that is slightly unclear to me.

The QSB, how many solder points are there? has any one got a decent pic of one installed, doesn't seem to be any about.

To me it looks like you solder all the points on the coolrunner QSB but I'm not sure if you only solder 3v3 point & R4B24 point.

All you do is dab a bit of solder on the points where the QSB will go then put the QSB and solder it in. Then solder the wires onto the pads on the QSB,

2 wires if Phat 3 if Slim

thanks that vid helps answer my question. So there are about seven solder points from the QSB to motherboard, but if you use the wire install there are only two solder points in that area 3v3 and STBY_CLK

think I will also go with the wire install

thanks, my question was meant to be how many solder points are there from the QSB to the motherboard
Are you not able to count the solder points on the official install images? Bl4k3y even posted the image in this thread for you.

Thats what I was unclear about, I dont think the install images show the connection with the motherboard to QSB and because the wire install only has two wires soldered to that area I was unsure if the QSB only made contact with the motherboard with the same two points

TBH, I'm not overly sure why the number of QSB solder points is relevent.

When you get the QSB, you solder ALL connections from it to the board. Simples.

It is relevant because I am a noob and I don't know the answers and I don't want to use solder on my xbox and be unsure about anything. Ive read lots & lots of helpful stuff from yourself and am a wee bit disappointed from the high ground you are taking in a noob help thread.

thanks for your help

I'll be honest - if you're that unsure about the whole thing, get someone to do it for you. Look at the countless threads on here with people messing up their consoles. Don't become a statistic!

To be fair it a simple question & I already thought that you solder all points on the QSB like I stated in the OP but just wanted conformation. I have been reading the threads for week because I don't want to become another failed attempt and have been doing everything you and others have advised and unlike the people messing up I am wanting to learn and am taking my time and have practiced on many pcbs and am looking forward to giving it a go.

and for a guy like yourself to make a comment like that after someone asking a quick and easy question is a bit uncalled for

I agree with Martin C, but as long as you have any soldering experience and take your time you shouldn't have any trouble. Honestly, I think you're better off with wires. Better learning experience, and I've had issues with QSBs in the past.

You may think so, but it says a LOT about the person asking it.

QSB points are by far the easiest thing you'll ever have to do on a console.

If you're that worried about these points and how many there are to solder, FORGET about doing any of it. CPU_PLL_BYPASS and STBY_CLK are tiny in comparison.

The question usually answers many others.

You can either solder where 2 minutes of looking at the instructions will give you everything you need to have the whole thing completed in just a few minutes.

The instructions are clear. The only confirmation you need is by looking at them correctly in the first place. I get sick of being asked to confirm my guides when I know and many other thousands know they are correct in the first place.

Or you can't solder and no amount of reading will help you and you should give it to someone who has a clue and can do it for you cheaply without damaging your expensive console and without your bruised ego taking offense from others telling you the same and this would also prevent you from posting bitchy comments due to said bruised ego.

How is this so difficult to understand ? :)
