Hello everyone.
I am noob is planning to do RGH on my Slim console.

I am getting all the components next week

-Nand-x
-Coolrunner
-CK3i
-CoolRunner Slim QSB Install Kit
-Xecuter CK3 to NAND-X Update Cable
-NAND-X To CoolRunner JTAG Cable

I am so excited to do the hack to my slim, however my soldering skill is not that great.

While I was attending the ITT tech maybe 12 years ago, I took some soldering class, however all the things I learned is gone (I just cannot remeber)

I think I can manage to solder wires and stuff, however how do I go about installing QSB?

Also how do I install the wire to collrunner itself?

I am very sorry for my noobish question, but hope some can provide information.

I am hoping video on youtube what shows how to solder QSB would be perfect.....and coolrunner.

However I know I should not expect people to do that much.

If anyone is available please help.....

I did my first solder with qsb's just a couple of days ago and it went perfect, I can give you some advice on it. First like everyone says use flux it makes it so much easier, take your time, a pro might install these in 10 mins or less, it took me half an hour but like I said it went perfect. And last I used a multimeter to verify for continuity. I hope this helps

Can you explain at what points did you check for continuity?

I have another question, i hope this is in the right section. my main concern is that when i was updating my drive to LT 2.0 , i fuc*** one tiny bit of my pcb board in the drive. But at that time i had my dashboard updated (not sure wich version) . So now i have a dvd drive that wont boot my xbox as the green light only flashes and nothing happens. My main concern are two things :

1 - Will i be able, after installing CoolRUnner and QSB , of booting normally my xbox?
2 - Can i install CoolRunner? My question is because of the dash version i have. As i can't see which one i do own, i can't tell if its the needed one to instal my CoolRunner...

As long as you have a 360 with an exploitable CB and isn't Xenon, you're good to go regardless of whether your drive is working or not and regardless of the dash too I believe.

The problem is that my xbox360 doesnt show any image because it just keeps flashing. The dvd is fuc*** so it doesnt even shows the xbox360 logo. But from what i understand RHG makes xbox boot another code or something like that right? So i dont need my drive i just can disconnect it right?

You've not been replied to as you haven't read anything before posting. Your question is answered in all of the stickies that tell you exactly what RGH is.

Plus you hijacked someone else's thread which is also against forum rules. So you broke 2 rules with one post. Awesome.

Thank you for all comments regarding the QSB installation.
Although I am still nervous to install QSB to my slim to achieve RGH.

I have been searching xecuter forum, or other online community to find actual video of some sort that shows how to install QSB.

I would feel much confident to watch a video of how to install QSB, I appreciate all the information that is given to us, however visual is always plus.

I know I am not in a place to ask for video, however if someone can upload a video of installing QSB, I think other noobs can also benefit, since it seems that other users have asked for QSB installing video before and no one never replied to him in xecuter forum.

hmm i would give up mate serious

installing a QSB is just as easy as soldering wires or anything else if owt its easier.
if your doubting your skills so much give up and let someone else do it for you or your going to have a really bad day trying to figure out why your box doesnt boot no more.
you wont even have an expensive dvd player left
just an expensive pice of plastic

I am going to do it either way....I know my skill is not good, however I have read many post and also viewed many videos on youtube abut soldering.

Just to give me a boost, I would like to view a actual video of soldering QSB.

Its just that visual helps so much.......

the qsb's are the easiest things to solder. seriously. all you do is flux, tin the solder points on the mobo, set the qsb in place and use your iron to touch both the tinned solder point and the qsb solder. boom done.

it is so easy that it is kind of a waste of time for anyone to make a video of it.

the hardest part is tinning the solder points, its not really hard, it just takes some time for the solder points to heat up so your new solder with stick. but really after the first one its a walk in the park.

i was (still am really) a beginner too, i practiced a little bit on a circuit board and some tiny gauge wire and i really think that helped me understand the concept of both things being solder must be hot enough for the solder to stick. the qsb's were the first thing i ever soldered on a circuit board that had a function and i did it just fine.

just make sure you heat up the two things you are soldering good enough for them to stick, that is what the curious inventor video tells and shows and that is pretty much the most important thing to be thinking about.

if you're nervous, dont do it. your soldering iron will probably be all over the place from you shaking, you'll make unreasonable decisions without thinking them through and you will probably fry your motherboard.

if you're so nervous, have someone who is experienced do it. or atleast someone who isn't nervous about it.

homebro2000, we don't need video. There's tutorials that show pictures as to where the solder points are for the QSB and the wires. What will help you is to buy a decent solder iron a 15-watt, flux, and silver bearing solder at least .022 diameter thick. I prefer the .015 diameter silver bearing solder because the amount dispersed bonds with the existing solder without overflowing. Take your time practicing. If you have old computer mobos or computer parts, begin to solder wires. Solder wires to various points and when tinning try not to overflow out of the point diameter. Once you feel confident enough to actually solder on the expensive xbox board, solder with conviction and without hesitation. Take your time, but try not to over think and just do it. This will help you to maintain a steady hand, and an ease of mind during the course of the project.

It helped me a lot. I hope it helps you. Practice first. There's no rush, the only rush is to get all the items we need for the RGH before the sell out, but once you have it you got all the time you will ever need to get the job done.

asifer gave me this link, and it was from this thread from where i ordered all of the items i needed to solder. check it out. http://www.team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54729

afiser and locobrown...thank you for the input.

I do have a used mobo so I will go ahead and practice on it.
I do have 25w weller solder iron and also
Reel of 0.3MM Diameter Solder Flux Soldering Tin Lead Wire or American Terminal AT-31604 60-40 Rosin Core Solder. (Both purchase from amazon.com)

Will this be good? I have also purchase paste flux and liquid flux from ebay.

Once I complete my installation, I will go ahead and post my pictures...

i'd get liquid or paste flux

i've read the lower wattage irons are better for beginner's and the higher wattage are better for experienced solders, i myself used a radio shack 15-watt iron and had no problems. martin c's mini-guide for qsb's recommends a 20-25w iron however.

im not sure of the diameter of that particular solder.

i myself used rosen-core silver-bearing solder from radio shack it was of .022 diameter i believe.

i have some hi res pictures of my install in the QSB tutorial thread for phat's if you would like to see hi-res images of how it turned out.
