QSB Question

Hey so Im very new to this and I have an rgh Trinity. Right now the nands corrupt and rather than sending it to some one and paying crazy shipping costs, I would rather learn to do it by myself just in case it happens again. I purchased a JR-Programmer V2 and found out my xbox doesnt have the qsb's. So I tried to look for them and xconsoles doesnt seem to have it but modchipcentral does.

I just want to make sure this is correct before I buy it. This will work with my RGH Trinity coolrunner and JR-Programmer correct? Seems easy enough to install.

Also seems there is a an extra port I don't seem to have a wire for on my Programmer. Do I need to purchase something else along with it?

http://www.modchipcentral.com/store/product.php?productid=17837&cat=&page=1

Thanks in advance!

You could do a direct wire install. Just cut the ends off the wires and solder to the board.
If you want the qsb (I use them) you have selected the right one. Don't worry about that extra port. You don't need it.

I would also recommend the external programming port. That way if this happens again you don't even have to open the console up.

Awesome, Thanks. so do these external ports connect to this install or is it a separate thing? Can't seem to find it though.

I would rather not cut the end off because I have never soldered before and although I will practice before I do this I don't want to have to solder more then I need to. I have another RGH thats a falcon that I may need to redo someday too, so If the time comes I may need that again and have to desolder. This seems less messy.

Okay that will work great. Looks like it doesn't need any extra sodering? It shows a phat console though. This will still work for my slim? Does this also connect to the coolrunner? Maybe im wrong but Doesn't the programmer also need to be attached to the coolrunner?

Nope.
We don't need to program timing files to the coolrunners anymore. Unless you have an old rev c or something. Still there hasn't been new timing files for those in years so I doubt you will ever need to re program them.

Yes it works the same on a slim.

ya look on front page stay away from mr mod chips go with modchipcentral
Yeah I know. I meant the person who sold me my RGH. He was so highly rated and I payed a good amount for my slim rgh assuming it was all legit. So I was pretty pissed when I found out a year and a half later both my rgh consoles are clones.

Maybe someday, but im a bit low on cash right now and my soldering is probably not good. I will just stick with what I have. Too bad I didn't check my console a while ago or I would have charged back the payments.

Before you even touch a soldering iron, I would look on YouTube at some how to solder videos. After that you should start simple by soldering wires together and learn how to flow solder. Then you can work your way to soldering smaller points on any junk PCB. Use a halfway decent soldering iron with the smallest dia of solder you can find and don't forget the flux.

And if it was me, I wouldn't fix what ain't broke. If the CR works then I'd leave it. Why waste the extra money? Besides, you'll have a hard time finding a TX one by the time your ready. They're getting hard to find and the CR4 is a totally different setup.

Yeah exactly. Only problem is I don't get team xecuter support. I have been soldering for about 3 hours on a junk motherboard and im getting pretty good. When my components come in on thursday I should feel pretty confident. However my sodering iron is a bit old and the tip isn't the finest. So not sure if I should buy a new one.

Yeah will definately but a new iron tomorrow.

Just relized I will need to desolder and resolder the wires on top of the qsb chip. Is there any special way to desolder? There arn't really any videos on it. Im assuming you just hold the iron and pull a little?

To desolder a wire yes. Just heat it up and lift it off. QSBs are a very different matter. They are a pain in the ass to remove. Do it wrong and you can damage your console. That's one of the big reasons I don't like them or use them.

Another soldering tip. You'll hear people say "use more flux". I say don't use to much especially when installing QSBs. The more use use, the more you have to clean up. When QSBs are concerned, flux can get under the QSB and cause problems. The only way to fix that is to remove the QSB.

also if you run into problems with anything, the qsb to me is just one more pain in the ass factor you have to rule out.i never use them unless customer requests them.

Wow you guys are making me nervous now. Well I guess Ill make a new thread tomorrow and take pictures and have someone look at them every step or so before I continue. If I f**k it up even a little Ill stop and just send it to someone.

edit: wow the new iron is smooth. Works so well. Looking foward to starting.
