Question about Hitachi 0079 dvd drive ...

I just called a xbox hacking store and they told me there's a new way to hack this drive without using a chip... As you can imagine I don't wanna pay for this hack so i was wondering if anyone here knows what is that way ..?

nothing has been confirmed or noted as yet. I heard a rumor as well but I took it as a grain of salt in being true

ive not heard of a way for dumping this drive without a chip.
the benq is a different story.i think one is coming after beta testing

With no disrespect I am sure there is a way to do it. They'r selling it so there must be a way, and it's not like a junk store it's an official console store which sells\hack consoles. They told me it requires a lot of work so it costs twice the usual price
the only question is how..?

dumping the v79 drive is a pain.i still think you have to put in a chip to do the dump.then most take it back out(i think)
if there is a software dump i dont know it.
just did a check with caster himself and there is NO way to dump with out a chip.

If they have, its being kept very secret. I have not heard of any software only method. There is one byte in the firmware that prevents us from reading/writing, so unless they can get around that somehow, magically all of a sudden, then i have to say no. Thats the whole reason the passkey came out.

Correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't it the same for all the other drives? I mean like there's a firmware hack with a chip and then after a few weeks a firmware hack without a chip comes out...
I think my general question is should I buy this hack or is there a small chance there will ever be a hack without a chip that I could do alone and save the money?

Maybe they are saying this because they know alot of people preffer to have a soft mod. I know i wouldnt want anyone soldering my 360.

They prob do do it but using the keychip to get it in mode b flash your drive and take it out and you would prob never know they did it.

Personally id wait another month. ive head good things and bad things about the keychips.

Im sure there will be a softmod one day. just depends how desperate you are to have it done?

these keychips are the first made so im sure there are some teething problems with them. heard sometimes they work sometimes they dont.

Yeah but the question isn't whether it's working or not since i get one year warranty from the shop for the hack ... the question is would i ever be able to do it by myself )and save the money) without the need of a chip? if not then i would go there and hack it right now since i wouldn't take that chance of soldering my xbox...

Sorry guys I guess you where right after all... It turns out that this store is using the (original) chip to get the xbox to mode B...
