My current PC's sata chipset recognizes all phat model drives and I can flash them with no issues at all. Does that mean it will recognize the slims as well? If the slim isnt recognized is the via 6421 the best bet for the slims, or something else. I don't want to spend $50 on a 360usb pro if I can help it.

I just purchased a slim that is already modified but on 1.91 and needs an update. It is getting mailed to me so wont be here for a few days to test it out.

VIA 6421 = FAIL for write protected slims

sure your PC chipset will be able to see the slim drive

whether or not it is compatible with flashing the slim is the question

1. will your chipset be able to slimkey?
2. will your chipset be able to verify reads/write?

the only way to find out is to try it

Assuming it can't write to the drive, is there a known chipset that works with the slim drives? Again trying to not spend $50, hoping my chipset can do it, if not hoping for a cheap pci card that can.

Well after some reading my intel ich9 chipset would not have worked. I bit the bullet and purchased a X360USB Pro today, as well as a CK3 lite and a molex power supply.

nice choice with the x360usb pro! shame you didn't opt for the ck3i tho as they are awesome. However the lite will perform perfectly well.

Why pay more for stuff I don't need
as i said - the CK3 Lite is perfectly adequate!

but CK3 Pro and CK3 Lite are now discontinued products. Replaced with CK3i and CK3 mini.

Im not suggesting you should have bought the CK3i - Only that they are the latest in connectivity kits! and have some really nice features.
