lm currently replacing my old xbox hard drive, my plan is to swap it with a solid state one (which is just sitting around doing nothing) however my dash is on another drive which may have problems, now lm hoping to copy it over to the new drive.

l just wondered if l could use a program that is able to access the file system on an xbox hard drive to copy all the content to my hard drive then copy things like the dash over to the new drive (lm planning on installing my dash to a 64gb thumb drive) and games will be on the new drive lm changing to which will also be connected externally, that way l can run more intensive tests on the old xbox drive to see if it was a hard drive problem rather than a xbox hardware related on (l got an e79 error) lm still awaiting a couple of bits so l can connect things externally however l was just wondering if it was possible to just copy everything apart from the games dir off the old drive and put it on my new one and essentially just repoint where the launch.ini is stored using dashlaunch (l hope that makes sense).

l know it might be easier to reinstall the dash but l wanted to save redownloading title updates and copy game saves rather than go through the annoyance of having to go through all the annoyance of transferring them over via the xbox interface.. plus l was hoping it would save me having to mess around with the avatar packs (or at least thats what l was hoping..

I used xplorer 360 but it was very slow. Maybe party buffalo. You want just copy all data from old Hdd to ssd?

preferably ld prefer to just copy the dash and other content (but not the games) that way it cuts down time.. l was hoping it saves me installing avatar packs and such and l can pick up from where l left off when l started getting E79 errors which seems to be hard drive related..

I would do that very simply. copy all needed files to fat32 formatted usb. Insert ssd, it will boot to NXT. Format ssd, boot from usb and copy all content to ssd. Or use ftp. It will be faster.

the easyist way l can think of is to copy the dash over to the new thumb drive then from there load up the older drive in the caddy to move over all the data l want to copy (TUs and saves) then swap over everything else and test the older drive with a drive scanning program.. if no problems are found l'll know if it was something to do with xbox hardware rather than the drive meaning l could add it as another games.

lve finally got all the content transferred over, but am having trouble getting the disk to run that had fsd on, l didnt have issues before l only have open/close options l have edited the launch.ini but as of yet lve been unable to get it to pick up fsd. lve currently got it in the rear port by the lan input.

that said l saw this: http://www.homebrew-connection.org/how-to-install-xexmenu-or-fsd-installer-on-a-usb-key/

is there a way to inject dashlaunch the same way so l can point it properly using the gui?

When you build hacked images in J-Runner, you can tick the "Use DashLaunch" check box under the "DashLaunch" tab.

This tells XeBuild to build the image with DashLaunch patches included.

If you do this, all you need to do is put a copy of Launch.ini on a storage device (USB stick or hard drive).

If the Default path is set correctly, your console will boot to the specified application (FSD or Aurora in most cases).

lve managed to get fsd to load on the old hdd, which lead me to finding out that the location of where l want to run fsd from is UsbMu0, since the hdd seems to sporadically work l was wondering if l managed to get into fsd again if l could run dashlaunch then changed the location of the launch.ini to the thumb drive if it would work that way (along with updating all the relevant info within the file), you see l dont want to do anything that will stop the hdd sporadically working, as l dont want to run tests on it which would destroy the data until lm sure lve got fsd running from the usb thumb drive meaning l dont want the files on the hdd edited as that would give me a back door in if l need to find information on the drive that could help me repoint to the thumb drive fsd (l hope that makes sense).

lve had a bit of a breakthrough, l managed to get fsd to try and load as a friend suggested trying to put it on a usb drive fat32 formatted and setting it to just "Usb" in the launch.ini

fsd did try to load but it crashed, just wonder if there is anything l could try or settings l might have missed when l copied it from the old possibly failing hard drive to the thumb drive.

===
finally working, deleted the contents of the data dir and the dash is loading, l guess l might need to reinstall avatars but wont know until lve sorted a new controller, only issue l have left is wondering do game saves have to be saved to something xbox formatted or can they be put on the fat32 drive? l dont mind having to put a copy of the dash on each of my externals if l get more.

that was my assumption :/ l can work with that tho now lve got things working.

===
Edit

on another note lve just finished running Western Digitals Data Lifeguard tolls and ran both the short and extended tests on the drive and both tests passed, also wrote zeroes to the drive (the short quick option as lm off to bed soon), that leaves me assuming the E79 errors might be hardware related possibly but l hope by using the drive externally will get around that issue now lve got everything working properly.

that just leaves replacing the controller which annoyingly was replaced just before my xbox started giving me errors, seems like an inner cable snap of some kind due to how its been resting or at least thats my assumption as it acted similar to my other controller which had the same issue.
