i took apart my drive trying to attempt the hot swap method of burning xbox games. i took apart the drive and found out that they place the drive in the case upside down, very unhappy about this because i was hopping it would be easy. so i tried the hotswap method got one disc to copy fine, so i let my burner sit in the open for a while, totally off preparing for the next step in the burning. i turned the drive back on and hit eject to start another backup...but the drive doest open. and shortly after it didnt open i smell something burning... the lit on the drive still lites up and seems to get power but it wont eject. i look closer at the drive and i notice the drive motor looks a little burned and thats what i was smelling. so know im wondering if i can buy a internal DRU-810a which is the same drive but internal and just swap them out, or would it be easier and cheaper to take a to a shop and ask for a replacement motor? i don't know im lost on what to do.

I'm assuming you broke some kind of warranty seal while taking it apart... but if by chance you didn't, see if you can get it exchanged or replaced by sony. I don't know what kind of "shop" you'd go to to find a replacement motor, but if theres somewhere you can go to that will fix it for a reasonable price, then go for it. If not, looks like you'll just have to buy another dvd burner =/
