Quick question about CR4...

So I am pretty much a n00b at this, but just did my first successful install last night and I'm itching to do and learn more...

I was thinking about the wires used for the install (just the standard wires that come with the CR4). Does anybody know if they are specific gauges for a reason?

For example, obviously the 5v cant be as low of a gauge as the smaller wires (blue, white, yellow, green etc) but could I replace all the wires with the same gauge as the 5v and have the xbox boot and run the same/faster?

It might be a bit of a silly question I just happen to be a fan of the "all wires the same colour and gauge" sort of thing, makes future owners of the xbox that little bit less likely to try to tamper with the install and it makes the install that little bit prettier when inside a case with a window :)

Thanks in advance for the advice :)

Would be harder to solder to the small points, but electrically not much different although the cr4 would have all its timings based on those wires and lengths ( pure speculation)

That's what I thought :/ I mean obviously it might be a little harder to solder. I wasn't thinking of changing the length of the wires just the gauge, mainly for aesthetics.

not sure about gauge , but it is advised to cut the wires to length when installed , cant see the point in changing anything else

I think that's more about interference and electrostatic caused by messy, crossed over, folded and coiled wires. I don't think it's actually about maintaining the best signal strength through the wire because the amount I trimmed was so small (except for AUD clamp which I near enough cut in half) and I get 2 glitches to Xell, instaboot dash... :)

But changing gauge of wires (normally) increases speed signal travels, and signal quality and strength received at other end. Best example is Cat6 and Cat5 ethernet cables. I know Cat6 also have a separator (the little plastic thing inside the cable that keeps wires separated) to reduce interference but they also have higher gauge wires which is why they are able to handle higher speeds.

As for what Ionix said about RJ11 cables... Dude thats nuts they are so thin! But then again if I'm not mistaken don't they use higher quality copper in RJ11 cables? I'm not sure though, what sort of boot times do you get? As in how many glitches to Xell / Dash, or how long it take from pressing power button (or DVD Eject for Xell) until something shows on screen? Oh and which install (?) are you using? RGH or R-JTAG?

This all seems to be something that's going to get mixed answers. What I think is probably best (unless someone who has tried using thicker wires for install can comment) is if I try an install using thicker wires and see how it goes.

See what got me thinking about this is imagine if I was to have a window in the side of my case with some LEDs to light up the inside. I was thinking or trying to find some glow in the dark wires all the same colour (or clear-skinned wires that I can place LEDs behind to make them glow) which would obviously be a little cheaper and look a little better if I was to use the same gauge of wire for everything.

That way CR4 would really stand out (more than it already would sat on top of DVD drive).
