So, I've flashed quite a few Liteon drives in the past, so it's not like I'm completely clueless, I just haven't flashed one in awhile.

Anyway, I was reading the 02510C tutorial and got to the part where you normally hold down the button on the CK3 Probe, probe the drive, and let go of the button. You're supposed to do this after pressing yes, but I get a completely different message when pressing PHATkey.

I get this message:

So, I do what it says and power off and then back on and it extracts my key just fine. The problem is that I never probed the drive. So, I'm wondering if there was some change awhile ago that made it so that you no longer have to probe the drive or why I'm getting a different message then in the tutorial.

I'm just being overcautious and making sure I actually extracted the correct drive key.

That is basically telling you to remove the probe from MPX01, power cycle your drive and click OK.

I use the switch on the probe for this particular power cycle.

I get that, but the thing is that I was able to successfully extract my drive key without even probing the drive, which I found very odd and actually thought was impossible. So, I began to question the legitimacy of the drive key that was extracted.

If that makes any sense.

Well, I've heard reports of this a couple of times and there hasn't been issue.

If you have any doubt, spoof your drive key into another drive of the same model and test it (like we did when DVDKey32 was released).

Well, I moved on anyway and got to the Liteon erase part, but after I click Liteon erase, I get this message:

So, that seems like the key wasn't extracted properly to me. I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

Well as long as you have the DVD KEY, I don't think it would be a problem to click Yes.

But I could be wrong, as I have never got that error message before.

I don't know if I trust the DVD key that I extracted. And I'm still confused why I got the original message when I pressed the PHATkey button rather than the normal message that I used to get when flashing drives.

You have any spare Lite-On drives laying around? You could flash one of them with your dvd key your extracted, and see if the drive reads games. If it does, then just try to flash it.

What I would do is properly power the dvd drive off, unplug everything, reset the computer, and attempt to get the key again.

Why extract more than once?

JF has done key verification for over a year.

Yeah, I extracted 4 or 5 times and got the same key every time. I still just don't want to continue, though.

I may have to spoof the key over to another drive just to test, even though I want to avoid that.

It's authentication method is the same as Microsofts, you can trust it.
