okay so out of the case is (from left to right)126.3f-128.0-145.7-90.3. The temps were rising pretty fast so I will trow the case on and get those temps. It was freezing with the case on before also and have taken it apart numerous times since the freezing issue.

What would you suggest to bring the temps down, fyi, there has been no thermal paste applied atm, just after I was asked about the temps in the previous post I started to realize that that is most likely the problem, I have not been watching the temps. A huge thanks for such a simple overlooked thing, hope it is the solution.

EDIT: you did see that those temps are in Fahrenheit not Celsius, right? just checking...

not too high but I would change the thermal paste anyway to be on the safe side.

yup gotta wait til radio shack opens in the morning and hopefully I just overlooked something as easy to see as that. The tv in my office that I have been testing the console on is a 15year old 19" that I just threw in there and the temp numbers were very hard to see so I didnt pay much attention, time for an upgrade....I feel like a complete ass for going through all this sh*t for something that should have been obvious but lesson learned I guess, I hope.....

It is strange. I think your temps are OK (12-130 F = 50 - 55 celsius). Your symptoms seem eerily similar to those freezing RGH2 falcons.

So I higly suggest you take a look and read from here:

Code:
http://team-xecuter.com/forums/showthread.php/95054-Posible-fix-for-Falcon-RGH-2-freezing-problem/page7?highlight=falcon+rgh2+freeze
From page 7 they talk about changing the smc config's settings, especially the power mode is important. It is usually 8280 on lots of falcons by default, and you should try changing it to 8080, 8480, 8180, 8380 then -- then rewrite nand, and then test for at least 30-60 minutes after each trial to see if it still freezes. Chances are you will have fixed it :)

Okay well I guess the directions are all within that thread, it definitely seems very similar to my situation. Thermal paste should be reapplied either way because there is barely any left on the chips so I will do that first and if need be edit the smc, thanks again as I had no idea of that thread.

Is there anything else someone can suggest? I have tried different hdd's, reformatted and tried again, rewrote nand in case that was the issue, still same problems, it works for 5-10 minutes and locks up.
I had the same problem with a falcon. It done it on a CR3 it done it on RJTAG. I ended up putting it back onto stock and selling it with a flashed drive. I couldn't find out what was doing it. Stock wise it always perfect but try and glitch it and it had a fit.

Sometimes It would go a week hassle free and then it would start freezing out the blue. I tried alt points, relocating CPU RST, shielding cable, different lengths, nothing would cure it 100% :-(

I am going to the store here in a minute and getting arctic silver 5 unless you know of something better. I was so preoccupied with making sure my wiring was on point that I completely overlooked the fact that I needed to apply new thermal paste. I was planning to get some thermal pads also but not sure where to place them or how many I will need.

Thanks for the reply, I will worry about that if/when I do the xclamp fix, as I do not have the needed stuff atm. Anyway, I took the heatsinks off and there was barely any tp on the chips, replaced with arctic silver 5 and now temps are holding strong right around 119-121f on the fsd I played a quick game of joe danger and came back to fsd it had only gone up a few degrees and no freezes as of yet (fingers x'd). As I write this it has been on for about 20 minutes and it seems to have worked. I can't believe I overlooked something that should have been done in the first place, oh well lesson learned....as long as it worked ;)

just the standard x-clamp fix to help with temps, as of now it has the factory x-clamps because I do not have a suitable replacement or the 14mm screws.
