I was just putting some solder onto the tiny pad and got some solder onto the pad next to it.....the other little blank one.....I dont have a solder sucked or the solder string for removal.....does it affect anything or am I ok?If not how can i fix it?

You need flux, desoldering braid and a good iron.

These are basic tools for soldering SMT. If you don't have these, you shouldn't even be attempting an install.

With the mainboard being a multi-layer PCB could I suggest just playing it safe by removing it - I imagine you must have a spare piece of copper wire you could use in the absence of desoldering braid? A desoldering pump is inadvisable anyway as you risk sucking the resistor into it.

Also seconding what Martin C just said!

Another trick to get you out of a pinch is to remove all access solder from your tip, dip it in flux and then quickly swipe the area with the iron. Most of the time this will remove the access solder as long as there's not a lot of it.

I have flux and I just got a new iron.I have been practicing for the past couple of days to make sure I could do it.I will just go to radio shack and buy the de-soldering braid. That little thing is a B**** to get right.....putting the right amount of flux without it going onto everything.I have to use a q-tip to apply.Any tips besides the obvious?

What size of solder are you using? Myself, I use 0.01 but that's hard to find so I would recommend using nothing bigger than 0.032. To big of solder can get messy very easy and quickly.

Not actually sure what size it is.Tried to find the smallest on short notice.Looked for Rosin core solder for easier installs.I think this is it...http://www.walmart.com/ip/Rosin-Cord-Solder-Tube/16539505

Ive soldered all the points on the top of the board and the wires to the Coolrunner and has come out next to perfect(besides the r3b15 point..

You should be able to use common sense to tell if the solder is TO big. The r3b15 is by far the hardest point I think and easy to screw up.

Just have a look while your at radio shack and compare sizes to what you have. I only recommend using that size but the choice is ultimately yours. :)

Been using .22 for pretty much all the soldering I do besides doing work on my bike or car.

Finished soldering and everything was 100% until I had to boot it the first time to xell. Now there is no green lights confirming its trying to glitch. Created another thread about it. About to kick a sack full of baby kittens.
