Random E79 on Zephyr JTAG

Good afternoon all,

I am sorry if this has been asked many times but I am reading conflicting information from various places with regards to the issue and I dont want to kill a perfectly working console by trying something and doing it wrong.

Basically I have recently JTAG'd a Zephyr Console with the NAND-X kit and have got everything running fine on it, but on random occassions I get an E79 and after power cycling its fine, but it wants me to setup all the basic information again. Its begginning to get really frustrating.

My old Xenon JTAG works just fine. I've checked the soldering and all is well, everything is fine. I've read that there are alternative points which may fix the problem.

Can someone elaborate on this? do I need further equipment other than what the console is already jtagged with now?

Please advise.

Many thanks

do you have it wired with the standard smc points? If so try wireing it aud clamp dvd tray and rewrite your freeboot image to match. Zephyrs have that habbit to give the E79 and also have issues with controllers syncing up. This is usually cause on the zephyr by wireing it in a standard smc point

What he said. I did mine with boxxdr's transistors method, run to aud_clamp, and dvd point showed by jtag tool, in the pics. It works perfectly. I was having your problem last week. When I created freeboot, I wrote it no dvd option. No complaints!

So i just take the yellow and red wire, and solder it to the alternate points? (would you mind showing me the picture so i definatley get the right one?)

Then in JTAG Tool select the alt points, no dvd option and rewrite Xell and Freeboot?

Jtag tool has images in the program of the points. I run my jasper with transistor method and AUD_CLAMP/TRAY OPEN

So I assume you are the jtag qsbs. If you open jtag tool, click on the wrench, the the left most box that opened. It has pics. Choose the pic from the drop down box.

Yes I have the standard Nand-X package which came with the JTAG bits.

Currently the jtag wires are on as in the original tutorial (ROL)

I have had a look at that picture but still feel a bit confused! dont want to muck this one up.

Right, ive done the soldering, put everything back together.

Reflashed original NAND.bin, can start all fine.

Ive chosen AUD_CLAMP and DVD_Tray for SMC
12625 Dash Version
Xell(HDMI) FreeBOOT eject.

Install Xell, eject the tray, Xell starts fine.

So i create a new FB from original NAND. Write it, now when I turn the xbox on, the drive is just ejecting and then loading Xell.

Shall i try with DVD drive option set to no?

EDIT: just tried set to no and now seem to be firing on all cylinders!

Will report back shortly...

A common problem with Zephyrs. Don't worry about it. Also, this has been mentioned in my Tutorial, so have a read at the end of the tutorial and many things will get clear.

Many thanks, I've read that part of the tutorial now and it all makes sense. Dont mind the DVD Drive ejecting randomly, not as frustrating as E79.

So far so good today :)
