curious... what would happen if I used config magic to edit my eeprom?

assuming I first unlock my hdd, then edit the eeprom, then lock the hdd again.

I don't plan to use this box on live...

will it still boot and work like normal?

actually, I'd settle for an eeprom that's already been banned. I'm trying to comply with the marriage theory, and so far so good. all I need is a different eeprom that hasn't been used by me. any ideas?

I know it stays banned... this box wont be used on live. I just need an eeprom that hasnt been used by my account. I don't anything at all to link it to my gamertag, just in case one of the games tries to contact live.

so, is it possible to edit the eeprom and change it and still have the box work? I want to know before I try.

so, do they just ban the serial number? what about the online key?

you also said any eeprom from the same version will work. I have swapped the eeprom between a 1.0 and a 1.6 before, and both boxes worked fine. Did I just get lucky?

I think when using configmagic, you can do this. ConfigMagic makes sure the EEPROM is 'labelled' correctly for the Xbox version it's being flashed to. Any other utility wouldn't do this and you'd have all sorts of problems.

I don't think you were lucky it worked: I think you were fortunate to use the best tool available first time!

so... would it be safe to manually edit the serial number and/or online key?
