Random Red Dot

Ok so a little background:

After hearing about the CB update last week I ordered a coolrunner to get the CPU key's from all my consoles and my friends console just in case we ever plan on RGH any of them. All 3 consoles I now have the key from and they all glitched fine, booted into xell and everything. Flashed back the original nand and updated them all to the latest dash.

Now, on my slim I kept the coolrunner installed but flipped the switch to program to wait out the release of Demon. (Sidenote, my slim glitches awesome. Boots with first glitch pulse immediately after the green light flashes so can't wait for demon!). Ok, so the weird part is that every now and then I get a Red Light on my slim, but the console boots and works just fine. Happened twice now. First time it happened was right after I put the console back together and connected it to live to update the dash. The console worked fine and signed me into live even with the Red Light on. Second time was just a moment ago. I booted the console up only to be greeted with a red light. It still loaded the dash but I needed to sync a controller and it wouldn't let me. I rebooted the console and all green. Any ideas as to what may cause this?

EDIT: Should also mention this didn't happen prior to coolrunner install

Got the same red dot on a dual nand here. Bot the stock nand and I get red light. Can't sync controller.

As far as I can tell the coonsole works ok otherwise.

It's my sons and If everything is ok it's quite cool. Told him the red light warns him not to do anything that could flag or ban him. Kind of a warning light as long as the console works otherwise.

If there's a fix I'd like to know though.

Quick update, it appears to be something to due with the way the dvd drive is sitting and probably affecting the coolrunner cables.

Here's how I got to that conclusion:

With the latest update I flashed back to stock upon reseting my drive into the metal shell and booting up I instantly got the red light but still booted to dash. It continued to do that. I then pulled the dvd drive and rested it on the side of the metal shell. And bam no red light. I then placed it back in and got the red light again. Removed it and guess what.... No red light. Going to check my wireing around that area and make sure my dvd drive isn't hitting any wires.

EDIT: Nevermind, didn't work.....

It's a RGH you don't need a DVD drive, just disconnect it and your good to go, no red light. :wink:

OP says he's booting retail not RGH so He'll need the dvd drive

try desoldering the CR

I notice if you touch the board while its running it will red dot, I suspect its some type of security measure built into the circuit to prevent accidental damage.

For instance if you touch this little chip area on the front of the board where the dvd drive sits, in front, it will red dot immediately. Quick power cycle and its booting again, very odd.

I can get a exact picture of the area if anyone cares.

It ended up being that stby_clk was semi lifted and caused an occasional red dot but it still booted. I repaired it and it's good to go now, no more red dot.

Go figure that I successfully RGH 4 consoles for friends with absolutely no issues and then on mine I manage to mess it up. All is good now though, it boots and plays fine with no red lights. Once the demon releases I'll reinstall my coolrunner using the alt points.

Edit: Ok so this wasn't the problem. Console is still booting but I'm still getting the random red dot. I give up, The console works so that's all I care about.

I updated the dash from 14717 to 14719 and the red light disappeared. I stupidly flashed the nand back to 14717 and it gives me the red dot again.

Since then I reupdated and the red dot remains on the stock nand.
