after installing a chip in my 1.6 xbox, i enecountered the following problem:
The xbox boots up fine into MS dash and Slayers no problems. After a random amount of time, the xbox turns off or reboots. It will do this over and over again. Sometimes it stays on for 1 second, sometimes it stays on for 5 minutes. Once this rebooting starts, the powere eject switch will not work anymore. To turn it off i have to pull the power.

What i did:
First i installed using the pin header and pcb rebuildboard method. I've done about 25 xboxes without problems, but this time i was having trouble getting the solder to fill in around the pins. The xbox would frag so i eventually pulled the pins and went with the wire install. I left the rebuild board in place, and soldered the wires to the appropriate pin header holes on the top of the board. I ran the red wire to the alt 5V as per normal for a 1.6. I plugged in the xbox and got the cromwell screen. I flashed a new bios no problems, and then started to install slayers evox. It got about half way and the rebooting started. I eventually got all the way through the install, and it continued to reboot. I tried MSDASh and it still rebooted. I got out the magnifying glass and started looking for bad traces and solder splashes but found nothing. I remove the chip and same thing. I havent got a clue where to look next.
Does anyone have any clue to what may be going on here?
Any help is very much appreciated.

Did you forget to plug the fan back in? It sounds like it may be overheating. What color does the eject light flash? Also make sure the DVD drive holder is not pusing down on the CPU heatsink.

everything is plugged in, and its definately not overheating. Sometimes it happens seconds after turning it on. The eject light doesnt flash, it just shuts off all of a sudden, and spontaneously comes back to life. Other times it stays going for over half hour. Could i have shortd the power supply or power switch??

Take it apart and make sure nothing is shorting out, or that you didn't leave a screw or something in there.
