Rare Video Problem (Help!)

I was using XBMC with my high definition video cables. I closed XBMC and went to load a game and my Xbox locked up. I shut it off and turned it back on and all I got was a blank screen.

I've figured out that it's not a hardware or modchip problem. Something happened when it was trying to switch video modes for the game. It is now locked into some video mode that does not work properly.

When using my HD cables I can turn it on without the mod chip to get an error code of 21. If I run it with the modchip it just sits on a blank screen.

When using the composite (red/white/yellow) cables it does the same thing and when I turn it on with the mod chip disabled I get the same Microsoft error code of 21 but the video is messed up and seems to be black and white.

So I think my Xbox is stuck on some incompatible HD setting like 480p, 720p, or 1080i and I can't get it to work. Is this an EEPROM problem? How can I completely reset my Xbox's settings? I cannot even get anything loaded to be able to FTP anything to the drive.

Oh yeah, I tried taking the mod chip out and putting the original locked hard drive in and it was the same problem. This is not a mod problem; it is something with the video on the Xbox being messed up.

Any thoughts or suggestions? If you need more information just ask and I'll try to get it to you.

I was told to use the Enigmah Video Mode Select CD and it worked. My EEPROM was corrupt and this reset my video settings. I was just about to give up!

It was the weirdest thing. It took me a while to decide that the video settings in the EEPROM were messed up. I thought something more severe happened to my hardware. To fix the problem, I loaded the Enigmah Video Mode Select CD (easy to find using google) and the instructions in the Read Me said to push B for NTSC. Since I couldn't see anything, I just blindly hoped the CD loaded and I pushed B. When I restarted it had written over my bad video mode settings on the EEPROM and it was back to normal. Does that help?

Re: Recovery of dead drive ??

no, if the drive is unresponsive (causes e64)
it means there is no firmware on it and you can't get keys from no firmware

you could flash the drive and get a DVD player out of the xbox

or you could look into the JTAG hack

Not sure if you misread his post, he says hes getting error E94. Incase that solves anything. ;)

You could always try reading from the drive anyways to see what you get from it - just to be sure!.

If you dashboard version is 2.0.7371 or lower then you can always go down the Jtag route and retrieve the proper DVD key that way.
You can check the dashboard version by going to System settings > Console Settings > System Info.

not sure if you misread his post, he says "or something". e94 doesn't exist

he means e64 which is a dvd drive timeout

Calm it, I was only pointing it out incase it had any merit towards solving his problem.

Re: Recovery of dead drive ??

try sending the device intro to the port its connected to (i know, you won't be able to see it)
i assume you know which port you flash with (you've done this before?)

then when the device intro is sending, power the drive on

if it is recognized, you have no chance of ever recovering the keys

if not, you may want to try the MRA hack

who knows? maybe you'll get lucky somehow
