Newbie needs help with PC information

Sorry for the newbie question. I have read the Jungle flasher tutorial for a few times now and still kind of loss. My questions are related to the PC. I have a Dell XPS 435mt, Vista 64. It has 4 sata ports. All 4 sata ports are connected to 2 hard drives (1 is of OS and the other just for storage) and 2 DVD drives. Below are my questions.

1. Can I use this pc to flash the Xbox 360? I don’t know what chip set does it has, but it is not a VIA mother board PC.

2. Assuming question 1 is yes. Can I remove one of the DVD drives or the non OS hard drive and use that port for the Xbox 360?

3. One thing I’m confused is that the tutorial said to use the primary sata port, but I thought that all sata ports in the sata MB are primary ports. Is
that only Appling to VIA mother board?

4. My Xbox 360 is the Arcade model with the manufactory date of June 2, 2009. Is there a good chance that is has the Lite-on 83850C V1?

Thank you for your help. I need to know if my PC can do the job before I move on to the next phrase.

Re: Newbie needs help with PC information

1. The best way to find out is to just try it. Plug in the dvd drive, if it shows up in jungleflasher, chances are you can flash it!
2. Yes!
3.No, there's primary and secondary ports. You don't HAVE to use a primary port but it's recomended. JF actually says if the port you have selected is primary or secondary, so it's not too hard to find a primary port.
4. Yes, I think so. The only way to be sure is to open it up and check it yourself.

I am glad you've read through the tutorial, although you're new to this you actually sound like you know what you're talking about -- this is always appreciated. :D If you need anymore help, feel free to ask!

Re: Newbie needs help with PC information

For all its worth you can get a via vt 62 whatever I bought ages ago sata card just about any for about $15 dollars. I made the mistake of trusting someone and relying on them, until they got all EMO and bugged out on me. Left me holding the bag on like 30 consoles and I had to really figure everything out on my own. Number one thing I learened, dont be a cheap ass, find out WHAT you need buy it and be done with it. I made the mistake of buying too much crap but overall you can get away with getting what you need for under $100. If I were you, get a separate sata card, a connectivity kit, and an AC to 4 pin molex extension cord to power the connectivity kit and make life much easier especially if you are working at a desk. Long story short sata $15, Connect kit $30, AC to molex $15, Xbox openeing tool $12, and hopefully yuo have an 8 series to avoid buying chips and soldering. You can just learn to work with what you have but sometimes what you have doesnt work with everything, especially once you get started and then things get more complex. Modding will consume you! LOL! Good luck man.

Re: Newbie needs help with PC information

Thank you for your help. It looks like I’m in luck with my PC. My PC’s chipset is the Intel ICH10 and it is compatible with Jungle flash. So my next step is I need to go to Bios settings and see if RAID is set to off before flashing the Xbox. Am I right?

Jasonmx81 - At this point, I still don’t have a clue what I need to buy so that would work with my computer. I really appreciate your suggestions. Would you please show me a link of where I can buy the Xbox opening tool, connectivity kit and the AC to 4 pin molex extension? For the separate sata port, I have to look for a non VIA card because my pc does not have any PCI slot. They are all PCI express. I think I probably stick with the sata port that my pc has for now, it seem easier than install a new one. This way I don’t have to mess around with remove the driver.

Again, thank you for all your help
