Hello guys, Been good 2 years since I touched my Xbox Elite, but now I feel like digging it out of its grave and play over christmas. Back then I had it flashed and was able to play backups, but I have realised that it cannot play new backups like i.e. Halo Reach or Gears of War 3. This is because my firmware is too old and needs to be updated
- so my question is whether it is possible to do it with some software, or do I have to open up the Xbox and go through the same flashing steps I did before?

Also, is it really possible to play backup games from HDD/USB nowadays, or is it just some scam that's lying around?

To play all the most recent backups from disc, you gotta go through the whole flashing process (a few steps less if you've got your dvd key).. you gotta update to the latest dash before performing the firmware update and depending on which dash you're on now, you may need to restore the drive before the system update

Yes its possible.. depending on the dash you're on, you can either do RGH, RGH2 or R-JTAG.. I would wait as the R-JTAG replacement is coming out in the near future.. all the above mod (R-JTAG) is for offline use only

Cool thanks man, seems like its going down to the local store ^^

So is it possible to play backups straight from HDD/USB after the newest dash?

If u r going down the rgh/jtag route I wudnt update your dashboard. If your dash is 2.0.14699 or below u may be able to use rgh1 method which is more consistent and better boot times than rgh2. I wud read martins rgh roadmap for noobies to give u a better idea.

you can play games from the hdd in a normal retail console but you still need the disc in the tray, but it plays from the hdd instead for better loading times and less laser wear, hit y on the game screen and choose install.

rgh leta you play with no disc at all plus load homebrew, but no Live
