Hi,

I have done a lot of reading and I think I have the answers to my own question but I am just wondering if someone can confirm the following for me.

I have a 360s with LITEON DG-16D4S drive in it, I tried to dump the firmware using a VIA add in card, using an old RROD 360 as a power source for the drive (I know thats stupid, I read the warnings, shame on me...)
Long story short R1 and C6 belw up pretty spectacularly, to the point of the board catching fire before I managed to pull power!

Much to my surprise I managed to bring the drive back from the dead by soldering in a new cap and bridging R1 (from my understanding its a protection resistor) I aim to put a 0 ohm resistor in at some point (would fuse wire work?).
The drive is now detected by xbox and Jungle flasher and plays games. PHEW!

I cant read out the firmware using a VIA add in card
Into fails but I have now ordered a X360USB pro V2. Is it likely to read out the firmware correctly? Also do I need to install a Sputnik (or similar mod) to be able to dump the firmware? Its my understanding that I only need a Sputnik to write to the drive, is this correct?
The drive is MXIC (serial starts 03).

I have ordered a replacement PCB onto which I hope to flash my DVD key. Not sure how extensive the damage was but since the damm thing caught fire I dont want to risk running the original PCB any longer for fear of damaging something down circuit.

Anyway sorry for the long post, in essence Im asking:
Do I need to Sputnik my drive to extract the DVD key? (latest dash, 0225 fw I think?)

Thanks,

Long time reader first time poster :)

Oh crap, I was dreading that! I did try and install a Sputnik 360 Switch on the PCB but the drive was not recognised by Jungle flasher when set to Unlock, figured it was a bad solder job so de-soldered it, re tried again, then de soldered it a final time which resulted in completely lifting the pad just to the left of the trace cut. I believe this is where you need to probe?

Are there any alternate points that can be used? I can post pictures of the trace but its completely gone as far as I can see :(

no you dont need to do the sputnik install to read the key,you say you ordered a tx pcb and a usbpro v2 just use slim key in jungleflasher to get a dummybin then write it to the tx pcb when you get your usbprov2.if you want a full frimware dump you can install a sputnik switch are use a sputnik probe

missed the bit that you ordered new replacement TX pcb as well so no you wont need sputnik probe as you dont need to unlock the mxic

Thanks for the reply, thats great news! I was scared I had lost all means to retrieve the DVD Key from the drive!

Heres a pic of the PCB, do you think theres any way to recover it? alt points? Otherwise It can be yet another example of what not to do

Thanks for the advice :)

I understand I don't have to repair it as I will use the new TX PCB by extracting the drive key from the old pcb and flashing it to the TX (along with FW).

I was just wondering if its fixable or if there are alternate points to probe/Sputnik switch?

You will be able to fix the traces if your good with a soldering iron I don't know if there are any alternate points best thing would be to see if you can cut the trace further up

depending how deeply you burn the pad you could get away with using a bit of kynar wire and soldering it in the hole but keep in mind from what damage you already done you could make things worse if you tried that.. or i presume probing one of the points arrowed in this picture will do the same without repairing the trace/pad

looks fixable add some flux and solder the trace back see if it works.. if it does sell your replacement or donate it to me ;)
