if the only thing different between the xbox and a pc dvd drive is the firmware would using a samsung 616t with the xboxs firmware allow you to explore the entire disc of a game

i dont think so becouse the xbox uses a special file system which cant be read from your normal explorer ... this means its more of a software issue not a hardware issue (i mean if it wasn't, software like qwix and xiso wouldn't exist, would it?)

LiteOn 8385 v1 ixtreme dvdkey extraction failed
ok so i am having some issues with my Lite On 8385 v1 every time i try to update the ixtreme firmware LT 1.1 to LT Plus i get an error saying "ixtreme dvdkey extraction failed" obviously i had the tray half open and i have tried it many times. And every time i get the same error i am using the latest version of jungle flasher 1.75. i am pretty frustrated and would like some advice on what to do. i do not have the key but at this point it does not matter i cant get in the drive anyways.

Owch. Well unfortunately, you cannot retrieve the key in the conventional way. Someone please correct me if I am wrong, but once you have flashed a lite-on with the LT FW, the only way to retrieve the key is to do an MRA hack.
I went through the EXACT same thing with a lite-on 7 series drive, when I put the probe on the 707r hole, the green light didn't light up.. did some research, got this answer, did the MRA hack. It's not that hard if you have the right equipment and patience!

thats why its a best to save your original dummy.bin some where safe then you dont need to do a mra hack if you need to update
