I have been using xecuter 2.6 for a short time now, just added a couple games to hd (madden 06 and SSX3) Everything seemed to copy ok, but both games gave me dirty/damaged disk errors...switched to bank 1 (was in 2) and both games played fine after that...couple weeks later madden froze in middle of game, now everything loads very slowly, sometimes not at all...my xbox loads ok, goes to avalaunch but my list of games and apps takes a minute or 2 to load...very new to this just wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to fix this - I can hear the xbox clicking when games slow down, seemes to be searching for something 3 times, repeats this cycle a few times, then game will continue to load slowly or sometimes freeze. Please help - I am completely stuck - checked ide cable (fine), hdd is set to cable setting jumper, no clue what to do next. My hd has like 30 gb free on it (100gb total 7200rpm). I deleted 4 games to see if that helps, but nothing yet. Help much appreciated.

While I've never dealt with this in an Xbox, the symptoms you describe would leave me to think the HDD was failing if it were in my PC. The clicking part in particular... sounds like bad news.

This was my first thought and biggest fear, since I am not very knowledged on how to swap an xbox hd, nor do I think I want to deal with this task - I've looked at the forums on this, but it still seems complicated. I guess its not really clicking, more like the drive is searching or trying to load 3 times, then repeats until finally the blue led on the xbox lights and it will load (a little) then repeats process. Very strange since all was fine before and I didnt change any settings. Thanks for the advice

A HDD swap isn't that bad to do. Do you at least still have your original? That way if the drive does fail completely you can still have the stock HDD put back in there and have use of your xbox.

What I would recommend you do right now is attempt to backup anything you can from that HDD. FTP into your box and copy the files over to your PC. If you can recover the data and later swap to another HDD with enough space for it you should be able to get your box back the way it was just before the failure. Also, if you don't have it outside the box, open it up and get the serial number off the drive. Go to the manufacturer's web site and see if it is still under warranty. You may be able to get a free (although blank) replacement from them in exchange for your failed drive. They'll likely have you hook it up to a PC and run some tests first.

Check out the HDD Swap link I've added in my sig. This is what I had used when upgrading my xbox. Wasn't difficult to do.

It may not be the hard drive. It may be a power issue. What version Xbox is it? Do you have any lights or anything like that in the case? If so, try unplugging those and see if it goes away.

It is a version 1.0 xbox...no lights in the case, so not sure how to tell if it is a power issue. I'm pretty sure it is the hdd, because all disks play fine - only hdd saved games and programs don't load right
