reasons for a dvd drive not reading?

Anything I can check? The dvd rom worked fine before i put in the new chip and bios, and now it won't read anything. It doesn't read original xbox games even if the chip is diabled. Is there anything i can try? I tired cleaning the lens but it had no effect

you don't need to make 3 threads about the same thing!!!

the cheapest thing that you can try is going to a dollar store, and pick up a dvd lens cleaner. Worth a try.

Ok guys thank you all very much for all your help and patience, I DO appreciate it , really. I just swapped the disk drive out of my other xbox into this one and now it works perfect. I guess this dvd drive is kaput. I tried cleaning the lens with isopropyl and i ran one of those cleaner disks through it but its always the same thing, it just says my xbox cannot recognize the disk. anybody know how much a new drive is gonna cost me? Is there anything else i can clean/check in this one before i punt it across the room?

The laser is probably going bad. Check Ebay for a direct Xbox replacement drive. You could also take a regular DVD drive and put that it, but it requres a little bit of work.
