Ok I had a hard drive and a modchip in my old Xbox. I went to upgrade my Avalaunch with my computer and forgot my hub was hooked into the internet. So my Xbox found live and it made it so the DVD drive on my Xbox would not read any discs anymore, DVD's, original Xbox games, CD's it wouldn't read any of them.

So I pulled my modchip and my hardrive out of my old Xbox and got a new one. I want to mod my new Xbox but I'm afraid of putting my bigger hard drive back in. I heard that Live formats your bigger hard drive and that is why your Xbox won't read discs anymore. Is this true, and if it is what can I do to fix my hard drive? Do I have to erase it and start from scratch?

Are you saying that live caused your dvd unit to stop working?? That didnt happen there is no way for them to stop your dvd drive from working cuz you signed into live. Plus i believe that it would probably be illegal for mircosoft to do it even if they could.

You must have some other problem. Live can only check the serial number of your HD and if its not the same one and you signed up with they just ban you they dont do anything to your hardware.

What chip and bios are you using cuz my xbox wouldnt even let me sign into live when the chip is enabled,
