LITEON DG-16D2S replace stock Hitachi 0078 with Lite-On LT+ 3.0?

I'm no noob,but no expert by any means. I used to flash drives when everything was as easy as spoofing one drive as another with the right DVD key. I just recently got back into flashing and feel a little behind the times. so here's my question:

I have a phat with a Hitachi 0078 and want to replace it with a lite-on? is this even possible? can it be spoofed as the Hitachi andstill play the newest xdg3 backups?

dont spoof drives, replace it with another hitachi 78

No, don't spoof. Replace with same model drive. This has been asked many times and the answer is always no, there is even info in a sticky here about not spoofing drives anymore.
