Hi

I have just purchased a new Hitachi GDR-3120L DVD drive to replace the existing drive which suddenly stopped reading DVDs. I've installed the new drive and It can now read DVDs without spitting them back out. However even though it knows the DVD is in the drive it won't let me play any games. It just says something like insert this DVD into an XBOX 360!

I've noticed quite a lot that the ROM version is important. Please could someone explain this to me? The two drives are the same made and model however they have different ROM version. Could this be what is causing the problem?

TIA

You need to read the firmware from your original drive to obtain your drive key. Without this, you will not be able to play Xbox360 media. The procedure will be different depending on what drive version you have, assuming the drive is functioning enough to dump the firmware. Once this is done, you can then proceed to flashing your new hitachi to suit your old drive.

Hi Caster

Thanks for the reply. Apologies for being completly stupid, but could you tell me exactly what is involved in reading the firmware of my old drive and then flashing the new one?

Do I need any special software/hardware/cables? Do I need to use a PC to do it?

Thanks very much
