All,

I am in the process of replacing a drive in my 360.

I am unable to get my old drive in Vendor mode by any methods listed in the JF tutorial.

I have been able to get the Key from the old drive that matches my 360.

My replacement drive went into vendor mode no problem, I am just looking for a step by step method to put my original key on the new drive.

Anyone have tips?

At this point I want to keep my FW stock so that I may update dashboard. At that point I may flash to something to play backups but that is not a priority of mine at the moment.

Thanks for any and all help.

System Info:

OS: Win XP and Win 7
Xbox 360: Phat Xenon
Drive: Samsung MS28 (2x)
Firmware: Stock (no key) and Unknown

u say you got key from old drive right? just open ur dumped fw u have in target tab in firmware tab,and follow the jf tutorial for whatever drive you have to write that fw. in ur case u would hit samsung unlock after loading ur dumped fw,and then hit write after it unlocks.

Thanks for the response. I wasn't able to get my drive in vendor mode to dump the original drive's FW. However in JF if you save the log you can get the drive key.
Mine is something like the below:

(Numbers/ letters have been changed to protect the innocent)

4250DA0A047F1A6F97DA74AFA06C921

So basically I want to insert that into the existing FW on my replacement drive. But I have not pulled a full dump of the FW from the original drive.

Thanks again!

Edit: After looking at the Firmware Tool 32 tab of JF I THINK I need to do something similar to the following.

Under source have the backup of the stock firmware from the replacement drive (Key as read is all 0's)

And under target have the same stock firmware from the replacement drive, only with the new key that I showed above.

Does that sound right?

Which dashboard version is the console currently running?

Simply load the relevant stock firmware (PRE or POST depending on the dashboard version) into the target box (FirmwareTool 32 tab), click Manual Spoofing, paste your drive key into the box, click Check, click OK, Intro the drive (MTKFlash 32 tab), Write, Outro the drive, done!

Before I pulled the xbox apart I noted that the dashboard version was:

2.0.9199.0

An Aside:
*I got this box for free from a friend as it had an E66 problem and a sticking drive.

I was under the impression if I went to a "stock" FW I would be able to update the dashboard to the latest version and then flash to be able to play backups if desired.*

Can you explain why I need to know the current dashboard version for the console to know what FW to put on the drive? Forgive my noob questions but this is the first 360 I have pulled apart and attempted to flash.

Thanks for the quick help guys!

So did some searching and found c4eva list of FW for my drive, he shows it dependent on dashboard version. But this is only something that is important if I am playing backup games right?
