I have 2 R-Jtag'd console which need new dvd drives (Benqs) and have a quick question

I have a few spare Hitachi drives lying around and was wondering what the best way to approach the swap

1. Spoof the key via Jungleflasher

or

2. Build Nand with new key

Any advice would be great!

either option will work, may as well spoof the drive as youll have to hook it up to find its dvd key anyway.

Flash the Hitachi drives with the correct drive keys (you don't need to change anything else).

Make sure you read the PDF first because you can brick the drive if you are not careful (if I remember correctly, a "hard-bricked" Hitachi drive can only be recovered with a TSOP lift).

So no need for spoofing?

BL4k3y is indeed correct, hitachi uses read/write routines within the FW itself, so if you brick it, ten you need a willem programmer to recover the chip after being lifted from the daughterboard.

for this reason might be better to read the hitachi keys and prepare the NAND image with a patched KV.

You don't need to flash the whole FW on a Hitachi, you can write the key only if I don't remember it wrong. No risk for bricking it then.
