Replacing DVD drive in Xenon JTAG

Hi all,

I've done a little bit of searching on replacing the DVD drive in my Xenon JTAG console to no avail. Currently, I have a dead Samsung MS28 drive and I want to replace it with something better like a BenQ or a Lite-on drive. Can somebody tell me if this is done easily and how?

I used the NAND-X kit to JTAG this console and have dumped the all the necessary info (KV, CPU key, drive key, etc.).

Cheers,

Chris

Open Jungle Flasher. Load MS28 Orig firmware in Source
In target load firmware for your new drive. Paste dvd key in the key section from your jtag in the Orig MS28 firmware.

Hit spoof to target then flash drive with method depending on what drive you decided to upgrade with.

That is the easy way.

You could rewrite the KV build a new freeboot image with you rewritten KV image you did where you change the OSIG to match the drive you bought, then flash DVD key to new drive and you're good to go. Or just buy a new laser for MS28

Cool. Thanks for the info. Last time I flashed a 360 drive was with a BenQ VAD6038 and I don't remember JF being in existence around then. Then again, there's nothing like learning how these things all work.

I don't think it's just the laser that's gone. The drive does have the whole drive belt issue that the Samsungs are susceptible to, but even when I did get a disc in there, the laser had no intention of reading it. Sounds as if the mechanism that moves the laser is stuffed.

Also, any ideas on what the best drive would be to get for it?

Okay, I've got a Lite-on DG-16D2S on it's way via fleabay. Also got a X360USB Pro coming too. I've previously used a VIA card for flashing drives.

Question I have is, I've already got my drive key from when I dumped the NAND, so do I just hook up the X360USB Pro and power to drive, run JungleFlasher, enter necessary keys and just flash firmware to the drive (spoofed of course, as the original is a MS28 drive)?

Generally spoofing doesn't work anymore on new dashboards with titles that have AP2.5 but I don't know if this is applicable since Samsung drives don't support AP. I don't know why someone would have advised you to get a Liteon or BenQ instead of just replacing your existing Samsung.

You can still spoof the key on it's own, this should work fine or if you can change your drive type to a Liteon via the KV then that should solve the problem.

Because he has a jtag. Not retail. So AP2.5 isn't going to affect him much.

You don't seem to get it, it's embedded into the dash it self and not XBL. The dash won't boot certain titles if the DVD type doesn't match that of the KV.

Try it for your self if you like, get a JTAG with 12625 dash and Liteon drive, then spoof a BenQ as a liteon and see if it will boot titles like ACB or NFSHP:cool:

He's right though - the freeboot patches ignore AP2.5 but I would still recommend the better option of just changing the KV in 360 Flash Dump Tool to match the OSIG of the replacement drive. You get a far better job done of it and never have to worry about spoofing it.

Don't have those games. I have an xenon orig hitachi spoofed as Benq runs Fable III fine.

Also Dashlaunch helps with AP2.5 and he HAS a JTAG he'll just edit the KV. Not a huge deal. AP isn't nothing or any type of problem for a jtag.

Thanks again for the help.

So, basically I would need to flash the Lite-on with a firmware plus my key, then edit the KV and create a new Freeboot (I'm using 12625 dash) and flash that to the NAND. If I'm going to do this, then I may as well go the whole hog and do it properly from the word go.

I guess being a JTAG console, it doesn't matter whether I flash a stock or modified firmware to the drive itself then either.
