Lasers are way cheaper than drives and not too hard to install. You just have to desolder the antistatic blob on the side and install it. This is much easier and cheaper than buying a whole new drive because you can't just swap out the drives if you buy a new one. You will have to flash the new drive with the keys from your old drive. Or you could desolder you pcb from your old drive and put it in the new one. If you have flashing tools than that would be the route to go but if you don't I would definately just go for the laser swap. Hope this helps.

ebay solder iron item # 230761563078 and Liteon DG-16D2S laser item # 251092918425. Simply use the solder iron to remove the little solder ball and install it. It might need a pot tweak but then again it might not. 75% it won't need a pot tweak but there is also a 25% it might need a pot tweak as it has happened to me before where i needed to pot tweak a new laser

As long as you have the drive key, you'd only need to take out the old one and flash the new one with that very same key. Piece of cake.
