My Xbox 360 has a broken drive and I have another DVD drive on its way. Both DVD drives are Hitachi (Unsure of model) and I plan on replacing my broken drive with the new one... But I'm not 100% sure of how to go about it. Can someone give me a breakdown of how to obtain the original drive's key and flash it into the new one? I don't necessarily need links to programs, but names/locations to find them would be nice.

Only links I've come across with replacing drives are hacking them to play copied games... I just want to replace my drive without paying Microsoft $130.

Thanks!

get the key from original.

Use 360 toolbox to inject your key into the other firmware.

use toolbox 3 to sppof your new hitachi to report to the motherboard that its the same model as your old drive.

I hav enot done this. But this is what i remember by reading other posts.

I think theres a tut somewher on this site. Just look for it.

Good Luck!

Yep Textbook has a good post in the forums that breaks it down, I don't know if it's in the Tutorial section though. It's in here somewhere.

Edit - Here you go...

http://www.360mods.net/Forums/viewtopic/t=885.html

He was doing Hitachi to Samsung so replace your old Hitachi model whenever he says that. If they happen to be the same model Hitachis you don't even need to spoof, just inject key.

Should be no problem. I replace a 59 drive with a 78 drive. The easiest way is to exchange the PCB if two drives are in the same model.

Alright I'm having troubles getting this thing to work. I've got the drive working in Windows, but my 360 cuts off automatically as soon as Windows tries to boot. I can turn it back on and the drive is VISIBLE, but the 360 Toolbox says that I do not have a drive connected.

Can anyone help me out?

Edit - been trying for over an hour now. I've followed this tutorial to the EXACT many times. The closest I've gotten to getting the drive key is clicking Raw Dump... Then it says "Cannot read from drive" promptly after, and the 360 shuts down (red lights stop flashing and drive powers down).

DOH! Video cables were loose. This hacking thing requires a bit of patiences, eh?

Edit #2 - Still receiving a "Cannot read from drive" error. DoA4 is in and the drive is functioning as a normal PC CD/DVD ROM drive.

Success! It took some digging around the internet and viewing of differnet tutorials and errors, but I finally got it done. I'd like to thank you guys for your help and support! Thanks especially for not saying "Get away, noob".

Happy gaming! Your help has saved me $300.
