Replacing modchip???

Hey guys, not sure if this is a question about 2.3 or 2.6 but here goes...
i have a 2.3b lite modchip thats gone faulty. The xbox frags 3 times and then the light on the front flashes red so i think its the modchip. Can i just unplug the modchip from the wires that are attched to it and replace it it with a another modchip?
If i can, do i have to have the same modchip or will another modchip, such as the 2.6, work with out me having to flash or do any jiggery pokery?

I think he said it's flashing red.

You can replace the 2.3 with another 2.3 but not with a 2.6 or X3

Can it boot disabled?

First try check the d0 point if thats not the problem flash the 2.3, That chip is old by not that old, but sometimes get corrupted.
Or if you want you can get another 2.3 but you still have to flashed. (Good luck finding a 2.3).
Or Just get 2.6CE looks cool with the hdd,lan leds, Also you have to use the cables for the switch because the cables from the 2.3 wont fit in the 2.6. Heck you have to replace the whole cables because the d0 cable is located diferent on the chip.

Just go buy an xbox 360... they work... most of the time

its a flashing red not a solid red and only red... no other colour.

How do i reflash the chip?

All the connections have been checked and they are ok.

I don't think its a solderless install. There are some wires soldered onto the motherboard coming from the chip.

(and when the chip is disabled i get error code 13)

13 - kernel - Dashboard launch fail (due to missing/bad key, or anything else that would prevent it from running) and the dashboard didn't specify why it failed.

What happened before you started having this problem?
The chip has two banks, so you may be able to boot off the other bank.
