I would humbly request help on my newly modded Xbox. I have read a great deal lately (here, Xbox scene etc) but I have to admit I am stuck, and sadly, confused.

I have a Xbox v 1.6b an Xecuter 2.6 installed (done by an aquaintenance) and m8 v1.6 installed. I also installed a Maxtor 250GB hard drive myself. Everything seems to run fine, except that only the first 137 GB are being recognized on the hared drive. From what I have read, I think I need to flash the Bios in order to get LBA48 support to access the rest of the hard drive. I followed the following helpful tutorial to prep everything (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=351619 ) but I am very confused on the actual Bios flash. I can not seem to get FlashBIOS v3.03 to work.

I would appreciate any help or assistance on the flash process or even to confirm that I need to flash the Bios , given that I already have m8 v1.6 installed. I apologze for the extreme n00b post but I have read and read over the past week and have gotten very frustrated and have accomplished very little so I plead for some help.

Thanks

No worries. I understand how confusing things can be when you first start off. Actually everything you said was correct. You need to edit the M8 bios then reflash it. Get a program called EVtool to edit it. The lower left hand corner of the program is where the LBA48 partition selection is. (I suggest using "partition 6 uses rest of drive." I find it a little simpler. If you use partition 6/7 then you'll have a G drive along with your F. If you do want the G drive make sure your dashboard has it enabled.)

As far as flashing it there is a really simple solution. From what I understand everything works great except you can't access the rest of your HDD. If this is the case download a program for your xbox (not for your computer) called FlashX. This program allows you to flash your bios without having to pull your chip out like you would with a programmer and you don't need to use a disk or even FlashBIOS. Just FTP the edited bios over to your HDD in C:/Bios, E:/Bios, or F:/Bios and run the .xbe Select which bank you want it to go and flash it. (Remember to turn you flash protect off or the program won't allow you to flash). That's about it.

Unless you really like that M8 Bios (make sure btw that you flash it on bank 2) then I suggest getting the new Xecuter 2 Bios (x2cl 5035) and use that. They say it is a more stable but I never had a problem with evox's bios. One cool thing about the X2CL is that you can edit your bios without having to flash your bios. It runs off of a .ini file like your dashboards so you edit that instead of editing the bios itself. It is really cool. They also are saying that they will make an xbe (and executable file for the xbox...like a .exe for the computer) that will enable you to edit your bios' ini file without having to FTP it back and forth from/to your computer. I think there are some other important things they are working on instead though so who knows when that will get here.

Good luck. Hope I could help. If you need anything else just ask.

Sorry for triple posting. I am a retard. The link above is the same link that you had in your message. Just follow the begining when it talks about evtool then use the flashx program I was talking about.

I had one question, I got FlashX_v1.2-XECUTER from xbins but in the .nfo file it says it works on models 1.0 to 1.5 but not 1.6, do you know if this will work on v 1.6 or is there a different app. I am just nervous about screwing up on the flash.

Thanks

Sorry, I should have provided more information. I transferred over the FlashX_v1.2-XECUTER app to my Xbox and ran it but the app just freazes on the "loading - please wait" screen, that is why I wondered if it will work with v 1.6.

Thanks

ok I have the same version of flashx as you. Although I have a 1.6 not a 1.6b. I don't think that should make a difference (someone correct me if i am wrong). Did you make sure that your flash protect switch was in the off possition? If not do it and it will work. If you do then you can try FTPing it back over.

I checked and the flash protect switch was in the off position. I also checked the other switches on the unit and they are set as follows:

1: Chip Enable - ON
2: Flash protect switch - OFF
3: Bank - 2
4: LED - ON

Are these set correctly as well?

I also thought I read that there was a flash protect switch on the chip itself is this something that should be checked or is the external switch the one that matters.

No there is nothing on the 2.6 ce chip for flash protection. That is on the x3. Everything is set up as it should be. I have heard of some switches being swapped around. Try it with flash protect on. I don't think this is the case though. If it doesn't work delete the flashx program off your xbox and while your at it off of your computer too. Re-download it from xbins and try again. You could have had an error on your first download. Let me know if either of the two work. Thanks

What is on bank 1? You could try flashing with Evox if you cannot get FlashX to work properly.

Japagi, thanks for the suggestions. I tried to run FlashX both with the flash protect switch in the on and off position but with the same result, the Xbox just freezes up when I try and load FlashX. I also deleted it and d/l a fresh copy from Xbins but the same result. I am not sure if you have any other suggestions as I am sure stuck in neutral here :(

Fantmx, I will prove my ignorance here. I do not know what is on bank 1, how do I check that and how can I flash directly with evox?

I d/l an older version (FlashX.v1.1-Team.Xecuter) from Xbins and it seems to load fine on my Xbox. MY question would be whether yo recomend using this app to try and load the updated bios on v1.6 Xbox?

I checked bank 1 and it also has m8 v1.6 installed.

I guess I will try the older version of FlashX.

Oh no, I really screwed things up! I tried the flash my Xbox with FlashX_v1.1-XECUTER but there was power surge about 3/4 of the way through before the erasing portion was done. Now when I try and boot the Xbox, it tries to power up three times then the power button flashes red and green. This is the same whether I have bank 1 or bank 2 on the external switch.

Any help woud be greatly appreciated, I fear I have killed my Xbox!

Sorry, I should have added:
-I can not open the DVD tray, it does nothing.
-Ithere is no video or sound on the TV.

As I said before, any help is appreciated.

Order a programmer to fix it. Or, you could hot swap with another working modded Xbox.

OK I have been trying to find some information on a programmer for my Xecuter 2.6 but I can not determine what the difference is between a X-ecuter PRO programmer and a X-ecuter MINI programmer?

I was also wondering if anyone could point me to a good tutorial on using the programmer?

Any assistance is appreciated.
