Required tools to retrieve Xbox 360 DVD key from NAND flash?

Hi guys -

I have an xbox 360 that I bought from craigslist with games that show up as "play dvd". From what I gather, this is a sign that the dvd drive key doesn't match the console drive key. Is there a way to recover the correct key?

I have read about people doing a RGH to get access to the NAND dump, then from there, they would read out the DVD key from the console. What specific tools (hardware and software) are required to do this? What dashboard versions are supported? (Does it support 2.0.16767.0?)

I read about the CoolRunner (v3?). Looks like there is a CoolRunner v4 coming out soon as well. Are there any recommendations on where to get one? They appear to be out of stock everywhere.

Thanks in advance.

What type of console do you have? Motherboard.

Oh yes, sorry about that. There are two units actually - craigslist can be a great deal, or a deal breaker, I guess:

CONSOLE #1:
XBOX 360 white - Falcon, Mfg date 9/3/2008
DH-16D2S DVD drive; firmware not spoofed
Dashboard 2.0.16767.0

CONSOLE #2:
XBOX 360 white - Falcon, Mfg date 9/7/2008
DH-16D2S DVD drive; firmware not spoofed
Dashboard 2.0.16767.0

To retrieve your key, if that is indeed the issue, you will need to have a nand programmer (either a nand-x or JR Programmer) and a glitch chip (any glitch chip is fine, I would not wait on the CR4 as we dont even know if that's still a thing). You will also need some way to communicate with your drive. Most folks here use a USB Pro V2 or USB Pro and CK3 Pro or Lite.

That said, if you're new to this and aren't looking to invest a lot in gear (which you will) I would post in the services wanted section and see if someone could do it for you. It will save you money that way.

Thanks guys. We all started somewhere :) I just want to get up to speed on doing this kind of stuff to repair units.

Movies play just fine on these consoles. That's why i'm suspecting it is a key issue. I have tried swapping out drives for the same model (and copying the key over, of course), but it behaves the same way.

I have two consoles that behave the same way. The recovery services that I found online range from $15 to $30 USD. How much equipment $$$ am I looking at buying here? If the return on investment is low, i might just consider going to the service route.

Thanks!

the stuff needed just to do the drive part after you already have the keys is about 40-60,and the rgh stuff another 20-30,if in usa i can do this for ya for 20 plus return, which is 12

OK - i found the required equipment two weeks ago on Craigslist. I have an official NAND-X and official R-JTAG board. I recovered the CPU key from several consoles repaired in the last week! :)
