Well, I believe I have recieved a faulty reset/eject adapter. Actually, my brother-in-law has, I am just doing his install for him.

I put mine in a few weeks ago with no problems, but his is not working. His XBox is brand new. He just bought it from Best Buy. I confirmed that it is a version 1.6. With the reset/eject switch unplugged from the Xecuter (the yellow XBox wires still go through the board) the XBox fires up to Flashbios and the logo shows as blue. With the adapter plugged in the XBox boots with the mod disabled (red light on logo).

Here is the interesting part. With the adapter hooked up, if I turn the Xbox on from the eject switch, the modchip becomes enabled. With the power switch it is disabled however. I had read about other people having problems with bridged connections, etc so I went through and tested for continuity between all the pins, particularly the pins that the Xecuter connects to. There were no visible solder bridges and there was no continuity that I could find between separate pins.

I decided to check the voltage across the two pins that connect to the Xecuter to see what was going on. It looks like when powering up the XBox with the reset/power button voltage spikes on that line to around 3v and then goes low again. This results in the modchip disabling itself.

When I hit eject, there is another spike to 3v but the polarity is reversed. Again it goes low quickly. This causes the XBox to boot with the mod enabled.

Incidentily pressing both power AND eject together does result in the purple logo (backup rom).

I figure maybe a socket was soldered incorrectly or something. Not sure. Can anyone post close up pics of the front and back of their adapter? Anyone with an open XBox. I wouldn't want anyone to open their XBox for this, I can just as easily open my XBox and look. What would be even more valuable are pictures of the front and back of the board without components on it and pinouts of the connecters. Also, which pins should be checked to determine wether the mod should be enabled, disabled, or booted from a backup.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Well, I did some more research on this. I put in my reset/ejct adapter from my XBOX which I know works, it does the same thing. After fiddling with it some more I realized that the mod in this XBox is more finicky. If I VERY quickly press the power button, it seems to work. If I press the power button even a millisecond longer, it disables the mod chip.

My own modded XBox is much more forgiving and I have to deliberately hold the power button in for a second for it to disable the mod, but my brother-in-law's is crazy. Is this something that is handled by the bios on the Xecuter? Normally I wouldn't think so, but...

Anyway, everything seems to be working fine. I guess...
