Ok I spent days upon days working on the motherboard. I had a working x2.3p on it working just fine. Pulled it off, put on a x3 got a frag. checked soldering and everything... still same thing. Put on known working x2 again, got a frag. the chip would not enable. Checked the daughter board no shorts or bridges. Okay then i checked soldering again. Then I started tracing out the lpc lans with a ohm meter. Pin 9,7 showed to be shorted together. I traced them out and no solder had been splashes between them and no traces were screwed. I was clueless. Then I pulled out the troubleshooting skills measuring voltages, and they too were correct. Then I noticed a very small resistor above the lpc pins on the back side of the board, I apologize for no pics or the name of the component, it was a shorted resistor though thats a fact. It's right above the lpc board on the back. I broke that trace and the chip fired right up. Went directly to FlashBIOS. I flashed and got the frag angain. Then I realize I had an old bios, updated the bios to 1959 and presto
THe x3 came alive. The resistor was like 100ohm I believe. Very low resistance. I will solder in a new one tonight. Although I could not figure it out, that resistor was ther for something, but all features of the chio work, dvd drive works, evox loads, games play, original m$ dash loads, xbox live will enable video and sound also are great. Ever heard leave well enough alone. Haha.. I can't do that!!! So checl your pins in you have a dead short on pins 9,7 then lift that resistor, and watch the Xecuter Rock you Box!

I checked soldering at least 20 times, it took 21 so check your soldering then start looking elsewhere...
A bad bios will cause a frag...a misaligned chip will cause a frag, a shorted resistor will cause a frag, and so will solder bridges... So Check everything!
I'm so happy I have beaten this FRAG finally, after 6 days of nonostop work, and a mad WIFE! HAHAH!!!!

just a side not to anyone reading any post suggesting you cut traces on your motherboard , do not do it quite simply.

im happy it worked for you but its not something i would suggest others do unless its their "last straw"

your brave enough to cut a trace if you pins are shorted, it's a rahter big trace in spec. to all the others take a look and see... ! I suggested this to ones who have a dead short on pins 9, and 7. thats all.. I'm not knocking the chip at al,l i've had nothing but xectuer's... there the best! !!

this had nothing to do with the pins being installed incorrectly. It had to do witha resistor shorting which almost never happens, a open yes but a short... No! Anyways, It works and I fixed it and thats what i did... take it or leave it! :D

resistors dont short for no reason, and unless it was shorted before the box was opened, or during installation it wouldnt have shorted.
quite simply a bad install is the onlky thing that would short it

i have been an electronics tech for years now. They Short hardly ever, you are correct, but when heat is applied for to long they will short. So if thats a bad install then yes blame that! You make it seem as if nobody but you knows how mod an xbox or solder. Thats the first shorted resistor I have ever come across!

Thanks GMan for the info. There are always some guys that need to point out mistakes when you are talking about something totally different. sounds like a woman :>

Anyways, I have a FRAGging XBox of a friends. Was working, but stopped over time. He would bang on it to make it work - LOL. Anyways, I never checked resistors, just traces etc. So I think I will check again, but this time I will check the resistors close to the solder points.

Will let you know how things go.

my point is when using a 15 watt iron, as you should know, heat issues would not arrise, and to my knowledge (ive modded roughly 700 xbox's since september), none of the resistors are close enough to the solder points of the hd/lan/d0, or lpc rebuild, that heat would be an issue, it would take holding a 30 watt iron on the trace for 3 or 4 seconds to damage a resistor, and even then it might not damage it.

electronics tech or not, you shouldnt be holding the soldering iron on the points long enough for the tracks and indeed components connected to them, to fry, simple as.

I can do it for you. I also have an IR preheater and a hot air station, although neither should be needed, but I do electrics work as a profession
