Restoring Original FW

Well I followed the Textbook guide for flashing of an MS28. I followed the instructions, all my screens looked the same as the tutorial, however when attempting to test out the newly flashed drive, it won't read any discs at all. So, I figure I screwed the drive and I wanted to restore back to my original firmware. If this is unnecessary, please point me in the right direction to resolve. Thanks.

It won't play original discs or backups. The 360 boots right into the dashboard without errors. In opening/closing the drive it says reading disc for quite some time and then it goes back to the "open tray" text.

have you tried cleaning the laser lens, if its not reading anything sounds like the laser, and have you plugged the sata cable back in the drive this as been done before ie by me the first flash lol

The SATA cable is plugged in. The angled end goes into the motherboard correct? I had the Blaster360 installed first, but I couldn't get that to work, so I tried putting it back to normal. Do I just get a cleaning disc to run through the drive?

Without it playing any discs, doesn't that mean that I screwed the FW? I tried restoring the orgin.bin and that didn't seem to work either. If I'm receiving the successful messages while flashing the 4 banks, it should've worked correct?

if your firmware was screwed your drive wouldnt even come up with reading disc message, and as for cleaning the laser just take the four screws out ov the drive, and clean the laser lens with a cotton bud, gently wiping it a few times, mine wouldnt reconise anything till i tried this, and six months its been working perfectly, well until i got the three red lights of death but thats all fixed now with a bit of googling :)

I took the drive apart, used a cotton swab on the lens a few times, but it all back together, but same thing. It goes into "Reading Disc" and then after a bit goes back to "Open Tray"

Hey im new to this forum and have been searching the internet for a way to solve my problem and have found no way of resolving it. I have a flashed firmware and have recently had problems with my new backup games. I have been told that it is because of a recent update from Live and will be unable to play new backup releases coming out in the future. My 360 plays my old backups fine and have been told that i would have to get my 360 updated. Though my problem is that i no longer have my original backup of my firmware and am unable to re-flash it encase the process is done wrong etc resulting in my 360 being damaged forever. I would be greatful for some advice in this subject and hope that there is a way that i can get past this problem.

Yes it is reading movie DVDs without a problem.
ok so it will read dvd movies but it wont read 360 games orig or backups.

ill have to look into that.
and yes if it went through all 4 banks then the flash should be ok.

Ok I tried it again, with no luck.

I have the power cord and video cord plugged into the 360. I have my orig.bin in c:\iprep. I'm using NTFS DOS to boot into my PC. I power both the PC and 360 on at the same time. I enter NTFS DOS, go into c:\iprep. I plug in my SATA cable. I enter the mtkflash w /m /sata orig.bin command. My 2 CD/DVD drives are listed, along with my 360. I power down the 360, enter #3. Count to 5, power the 360 back on and see the 4 banks complete their flash to 100%. I receive the success messages. Remove the SATA from the 360, power the 360 down and reboot the PC.

Still no luck restoring the original firmware, or having a hacked flash enable me to play/read burned or original games. I can still however read/watch DVDs.

I'm at a loss, I'm following directions to the T for what I can tell and getting nowhere fast.

Sounds possibly like a laser adjustment problem to me. When you took your 360 apart to install the Blaster etc, did you by any chance drop/knock or basically shock the DVD drive in any way by accident?

I don't know much about this, not sure if that would even affect it, but I'm sure I have heard of people having problems with reading certain dics but not others and it had something to do with their laser being weak or needing adjustment. There are tutorials that show you how to calibrate the DVD Pot of 360 drives. But it helps to know well what your doing & have access to a Multimeter.

Although you were playing originals with your console before you tried to flash yes? So must be something thats happened as a result, unless just a coincidence that the problem happened at the time you flashed the drive.

If you exhaust all other avenues & your at the point where you will need to buy a new drive anyway, if you have access to a Multimeter you could always try tweaking up the power of the laser by following this handy tutorial:

http://dwl.xbox-scene.com/tutorial/XBOX_360_POT_CALIBRATION_V1.0_by_Moda.pdf

As I said, I would keep this as a last resort & only if you have a Multimeter already or a friend has one you can borrow. Because if you have to purchase a Multimeter especially for this you might aswell not bother and just buy a replacement DVD drive.

the v28 drives are not known for having weak lasers.(the old hit drives yes)
as olimaylen ask you did not hurt the drive opening or closing the 360.
how many orig did you try.

if you tried many.then something most have got missed.you did not see something. at this point im at a loss. sorry

Well I appreciate your guys help, the kids have been bugging me, so I went and bought a new core system so they can play their dang DDR. In the meantime, I'll mess with this other one awhile longer.
