Hi guys,

I've recently returned to gaming after a long break. I have a 2007 console, TS-H943 MS28 disc drive flashed with some kind of firmware - not sure what as it's been a long time, the console was still running the original dashboard.

I recently bought a 2nd hand copy of Forza 3 which asked me to update the dashboard. I did this without any thought on what the update actually contained!

So now the console settings are -

D2.0.7371.0 K2.0.7371 (BK.2.0.1888.0) X:C85B.D08F-11A5-C329

I've done a little reading on the updates and believe I can update to 2.0.12625.0 before the update wipes the firmware on my drive? Can you still get hold of that update anywhere? Is there any benefit to upgrading to this? Will this allow me to use usb storage on the original fat 360?

I recently bought a 320gb hard drive in the enclosure that fits the original fat 360, it only shows up as unformatted, and will not format in the console. Is it a dodgy hard drive or do I need some kind of update to read that size hard drive?

I never go on Live so I'm not bothered about bans etc, but how does my mod affect any new games that I buy with the new security checks? Can I update my drive firmware to anything better?

Sorry if the questions seem obvious, I've been out of it for a while and so much has changed!

Cheers

Not yet, I'm still reading up on it all. If you are just doing the JTAG, can you still use the QSBs that come in the kit? Or are they only usable if you are doing the RGH?

I'm still reading up on it and I guess once I've got the kit, it will start to make a bit more sense with what I have to use/do. I'm sure it was easier when I flashed the disc drive!!

Yes. Download J-Runner and look at the install images. A picture is worth a thousand words. TX also makes a jtag kit if you want to use that instead of wires and diodes. Either way the hardware is pretty simple.

Thanks, I've just found a thread where it shows the jtag kit. The jtag kits weren't on the site I got my nand-x from, will have to see. I'll have a look at J-Runner now.

Also when you do your create your updated jtag image, you will want to flash the latest firmware for your drive, as most all new games use XDG3 over XDG2. This means the system will read old games, but not new ones.

This is the latest firmware for your drive: Samsung - iXtreme LT+ v2.01, or you could flash a stock firmware, on a jtag it doesnt really matter what firmware you use(Stock/LT+), considering most people play all of there games off a hdd, and only use the drive for ripping disks.

My Nand-X arrived today, there's so much info around but think I've got it all.

Consoles with the 7371 dashboard made before 6-1-09 should be able to jtag as they don't have the patched CB.

Found tutorials for dumping the nand and using j-runner.

As I have a dodgy hard drive at the moment, if I leave dashlaunch and freestyle etc until later I can just build the new j-tag dashboard and use that for now?

Before I play any new games I have to update the firmware of the dvd drive.

Shopping list -

2 x 1N4148 switching diodes
Wire
Solder & flux
15-30w soldering iron

Think that should be it?

Just thought I'd update you guys on how I've got on....

I thought some of the soldering was a little tricky, haven't soldered anything that small for a long time! 4 nand dumps with j-runner, no bad blocks, all dumps the same. I ran into a few problems with j-runner, but after closing the app and restarting it I managed to get everything done.

I'm now running on the latest dash, all booted without any problems. Just got the dvd firmware to sort along with my hdd, then need to install the other apps.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated :)
