Hi all
I have an old xbox (Phat falcon) I've aquired but the dvd drive doesn't match the motherboard so I thought I'd rgh it to get the dvd key.
Anyway i tried to update to the latest dash but it wouldn't let me, i'm guessing because the dvd isn't the correct 1.
I thought I'd dump the nand and try glitching it anyway, I dumped 8 nands and they all matched, great :)
I got my .ecc file through the coolshrimp jtag tool and programmed the coolrunner, I think.
Now when I switch the xbox on the centre light on the console is green, but it won't boot to anything just a black screen. coolrunner has just a red light
The green light around the rf board don't flash in a circle either as if its starting up.
If I plug the dvd drive in the same thing happens, If I start the console using the eject button the dvd drive ejects ok but still the same with the rf board.
If I try to match a controller the the xbox the green lights flash round the rf board but the controller won't match.
I flash the original nand back but get the same results.
Checked all the wiring with a multimeter and it all checks out.
What I'm wondering is if I need to do something different because I'm on an old dash and the tuts all seem to deal with the latest 2 dashes, do I need certain 9199 dash files and if so could someone please point me to them and also tell me what I need to do with them.
Thanks
Cowboy

first make sure your coolrunner is switched back to NOR (should have been on PRG when writing to ecc) mode via small switch on top of cool runner (also PHAT need to be set).

second there are alot of jtag tool tuts floating around. a link would help. especially if you followed it step by step.

did you get xell to boot or is this your initial ecc write to get the keys?

have you verified your solder points? no just with your eyes.

Coolrunner was definitly set to nor.

first time I tried it I used these tuts

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/user/CarolinaGamer?feature=watch#p/u/7/wunyw58JeCk"]http://www.youtube.com/user/CarolinaGamer?feature=watch#p/u/7/wunyw58JeCk[/ame] used this to program coolrunner

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE7oHVHs6HQ"]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pE7oHVHs6HQ[/ame] used this to install .ecc

These are the tuts I used 1st time round, but i've done it with other tuts, the last one i used was a coolshrimp jtag tut which I can't find right now but it all ends the same way :(

did you get xell to boot or is this your initial ecc write to get the keys?

Never had xell boot, these have been the initial ecc

have you verified your solder points? no just with your eyes.

As I said i've used a multimeter to check the soldering, even took another xbox apart to check the values of points around where I soldered to ensure I got the correct readins so I believe the soldering is all good

I've been doing this for about 5 days so far and have read most of the guides and forums on this but haven't found an answer

Even brought a second coolrunner but that has the same result

taking a look through the vids now.

in the mean time what did you mean by

"and programmed the coolrunner, I think."

did something not seem right at this point? did you get a odd readout in dos? also do you remember the error code or popup dialog that you got when trying to update the dash b4 installing coolrunner.

just reread your original post your dash version should not have been a problem as long as you selected the 9199 freeboot option in jtag tool when creating your ecc.

try reading current ecc file and making a new one with xeBuild. link below. there's a pretty helpful readme included not to mention the dos prompts are pretty helpful. (Its what i used to do my last Falcon RGH)

We'll figure this out

xebuild-gui-v11.html
If you dont trust links you can always just google "xeBuild GUI_v1.1"

Will it allow you to update via usb because I believe you need dash 13599 or newer to have a better chance at rgh I hope this helps

If it won't boot with the original nand and you are positive it's not in the soldering than it's most likely in your routing of the wires. Reload the original nand and pull the wires loose from the board if glued or tapped and CAREFULLY move them around until you find spot for them that will allow the system to boot (away from the coils). Just be very careful as to not disturb that solder joints. I would even strongly that you glue or tap close to the solder joints to prevent any accidents.

This is where I think the problem is, I never changed any settings.
I'm working away for the next 4 days now so I won't be able to do anymore on it untill Monday :(
Its just really annoying me, I'm sure its something really simple.
On Monday i'll reroute all the wiring as in the diagram, Try xebuild to build the .ecc although I had a quick look at that and wasn't sure how to get the .ecc but that maybe because i'm tired
Anyway thanks for all your help and I'll report back on Monday with my results.

Back again
Yesterday I made my second attempt at rgh'ing a second xbox, another falcon and this time everything went well and its all up and running as it should, just trying to work out how to connect to xlink kai (but thats another issue) :)

Anyway back to the original issue, I have a couple of questions that have been bugging me ( probably dumb ones but please be gentle )

1) I've now removed all wiring and the problem still
exsists, now i've written the .ecc file to the nand can
I reverse the whole process so I can at least get
the xbox to boot up to standard dash again, ie
back to where I started, I did flash the original nand
back but it still only has a centre green light on the
rf board :(.

2) As the xbox only powers up with just the centre
green light showing on the rf board, does this mean
its waiting for a signal from the coolrunner to glitch
before it can boot and thats why it won't boot? If so
i'll wire it all back in and try to get the green light
flashing on the coolrunner.

If you reflashed your original nand back and removed all the wiring and cool runner does it boot like normal on the stock dash? You can try to just have the coolrunner switched to "prg" with the original stock dash flashed back before desoldering everything (including the wires).

If you try what I suggested and still are unable to get the xbox to boot then considering that this is a Falcon have you considered that it may actually have a partial RROD GPU no display issue. If you power on the console do you see the normal green quadrants going in a circle but just get a black screen or is it just constantly flashing the single middle green light?

removed everything. standar nand rewritten, on power up i only get the centre green light, no green quadrant lights, I did think about the rrod road but when i've had the gpu go down before i've always had the quadrant lights light up, to be honest I think i'm going to give up on this 1 as i've spent so much time on it and have probably screwed up something on the board as I can't even get it to boot on the original nand :(
