RGH RGH Dashboard Freeze

Just as the title says, my Falcon dash keeps freezing. My TX Coolrunner glitches just fine, usually on the first or second try. I can boot into Xell fine without any freezing.

My soldering is beautiful (had a pro do that part).

  • I do not have any bad blocks in my nand (6 matching reads)
  • I have tried 360 Multi and Jtag Tool FreeBoot images.
  • XexMenu will load.
  • I tried with and without dash launch patches
  • I flash the freeBoot image from Xell. I have tried through my LPT cable.
Anyone have any ideas left for me to try.

Thanks in advance.

Could you be more specific on the time that it freezes... as in like right when you boot into the dash board or when you launch homebrew. Or maybe like after a specific amount of time since boot?

Use BuildNIv1 for dashlaunch patches. dashlaunch patch had freezing issues.
But I am very worried, without dashlaunch, why its freezing?

try RGH multibuilder or ggbuild, Thanks

Thanks for the replies.

Usually the box freezes at different points. Sometimes at the boot screen, dash, or while in XEXMenu. Haven't gotten more than maybe 3 minutes max without it freezing.

I will try a straight ggbuild and see what happens.

Also, probably a dumb question, but couldn't find any info. On my old Jtag Xell was blue, all I have is black. Some tutorials I have seen have the blue Xell. Would this matter, or is it just a newer version?

Just tried using ggBuild and still freezing.

I will try a cap tomorrow when the Shack opens. I am not doubting you but I thought that was for a Zypher if my memory serves me correctly.

Ubergeek, I did some reading up on the caps for the TX coolrunner and now understand a bit more.

The Shack did not have the correct cap. I am going to order one and will post results back in the next few days.

Thanks for the reply Seanr28. I don't have any bad blocks, I read the nand 6 times, no errors. I also did not have any errors writing back to nand.

I am thinking about flashing the original nand back to see if it still freezes. I am kinda waiting to do that because I am using LPT. I built a USB programmer, but it would not work on 3 of my boxes.

I ordered the caps and will try that.

Just decided to rebuild the image using 360 multi builder. I flashed glitch using +w16, then used usb to update the dash.

I was not getting any errors in the past, now I am getting the following:
Code:
block 0x290 seems bad, status 0x00000210
I tried remapping that 290 block in my nandflash.bin to 3ff, and I am still getting freezing.

Hate to be a pain and keep posting, but I found a shop that will be open tomorrow that may carry the cap I need.

I just want to clarify Ubergeeks suggestion of adding a cap to A and D.

Does this mean add a cap to the A point and GND, and another cap to the D point and GND, or just add a cap to the A and D points?

Also about my possible bad block, when writing from LPT, I do not get that error. I only get the error if I flash nand using Xell w/ Xenon on my flash drive. Can anyone offer any insight to that?

First a big thanks to everyone. I seemed to fix my problem.

I used somewhat of solution that the above post referenced. I did not use the alternate point for the CPU_PLL_BYPASS, all I did was move the wire away from the two coils that have solder joints on the bottom of the board. If you look at the TX Coolrunner install pics, you can see the green wire runs next to it. I had my wires going through the middle of both of them. It must cause some type of interference.

I would recommend TX possibly changing the installation picture to route this wire differently. But hey, either way I am a happy camper now. I now have that void filled in my life from when my original JTAG died due to my excellent soldering skills. ;)

Thanks again everyone.

Glad I could kinda help. I didn't use the alt point on purpose, I just accidentally caught the wire on my desk and ripped it out. On different xboxs you gotta mess with the cpu bypass wire to get it to work (I have heard about it on slims more than anything else). Either way we are both happy campers lol

Edit: I should add that its not the alt point that made it work for me, but the fact that the wires where on top. I ran the bottom wire through one of the little holes next to where the heatsink bolts go in.

I had this issue when i installed dashlaunch, so i made a new nand image with ggbuild without the dashlaunch patched and also no dlaunch added after nand flash and still rides like a train ;)
