[RGH] pll_bypass cap melted. How screwed is my 360?

first cap above the "PLL_BYPASS" (A) point melted off...

I started off by bridging the pll_bypass point and in the process of cleaning up the surrounding area the resistor was destroyed. I got the point soldered but now the 360 not only wont glitch but it wont even boot normally once I flash back to stock.

Every other point was easy only the pll_bypass point gave me problems (apparently enough). Every other step went perfectly and everything is in place. I just need confirmation the lack of resistor is the reason my 360 is currently disabled.

power on with ecc flashed to nand. solid red light on coolrunner. 360 powers up fine but never glitches. have never seen the green light on coolrunner.

power on with stock nand. RROD with no picture.

I'm really bummed out and dont know what to do besides wait for some help on forums. Spent $100 and all it got me was breaking my little brothers perfectly working jasper.

EDIT: oops sorry about the double post. I clicked create topic right before I realized I didnt enter a topic title and didnt stop it from posting in time.

It's a 10k resistor. If you can solder SMT components, take off R6T3 (which you do for e-fuse prevention) and put it in place. Yes, with this not in place you'll get RRoD within 5 secs.

I dont think I'll be able to do that. Its too tiny and Im too inexperienced at soldering I feel I would only make things worse.

I think my best course of action would be to send it to a pro to fix. You offer those services correct?

EDIT: damn I see you are from the UK. Who is the martin C USA equivalent on these forums?

Re: [RGH] pll_bypass resistor melted. How screwed is my 360?

Apologies - it's not the resistor you've removed, it's the cap. Saw 'resistor' and CPU_PLL_BYPASS and thought you were on about R7R17.

I don't know the value of that cap offhand, but you will need someone to replace it.

So the thing I removed is called a cap? Would it still be the cause of the 5sec RROD and glitch not working.

Its microscopic I dont see how it could be reattached.

I can solder the point behind it with the naked eye, but not sure about that cap......would probs need some sort of magnifier lol......if only just to check the connection after lol....spose.......I do 0603's by eye lol

Just took at look at the "modding services" section and realized it not worth paying over $30 for a chance at fixing it (most of them want $15 just for shipping!). I already spent so much and broke now. I'm starting to get super depressed.

so is pulling the same cap off dead zephyer board (I didnt break that one lol) and mashing it into the jasper with a soldering iron and hoping for the best not advisable?

omfg I tried soldering a new cap on and failed but in the process I made the 2 cap points cleaner then they were may have been bridged before.

So I said what the hell and tried to boot the 360 since the connections look cleaner than ever (even without cap) AND WTF THE COOLRUNNER START BLINKING GREEN!!1

It did take a minute to boot into xell but this is related to the wiring and not the lack of cap, correct?

its a 16MB jaser so I shouldnt need to installl the coolrunner cap that came with it right? Just need to adjust the wires to get better boot times? Im still in shock and would be happy even If I cant get it booting faster hehe.

Good work!!!

Yep, looks good - you might need to add a cap between A and GND to decrease boot times, but just make sure your wiring is away from the coils.
