Okay so I've got a newly RGH Falcon that works fine without the DVD drive. I was REALLY excited so I lazily booted it with barebones put bak in. Only fan and heatsink cover. But wen I installed my DVD drive I get RROD. Take the drive out an its fine. Mite seem redundant havin an RGH and wanting a DVD drive to play games but it just makes it easier.

Reflash the DVD Drive with the latest LT 3.0 and see if still get the error
see if the drive will eject when the eject button is pushed.......did you by chance try to plug it in when the xbox was powered on if so you may have accidentally put the connector in upside down and fried the board (have seen that before) what is the secondary code you get with the rrod???

its nice to have the dvd drive in so you can just install games directly to hdd from the console no ripping and iso2god
Okay so I'll TRY flashing the drive to LT 3.0. I didn't do any of the programming so mite b difficult lol.
