ring of death/firmware/back up game question

first me specs:

ms28 drive w/ ixtreme1.2c fast
used xbc to make backups
memorex discs (verbatim didnt work on my xbox)
have a fan blowing directly on xbox to keep it cool.


problem: cant enjoy an evening of ncaa 08!!! played the original ncaa for like 3 hours just fine. made a copy then put it in my xbox then i started gettin problems. first the game froze like 2mins into the into. turn off the console and tried to turn it back on, got the ring of death! turned it off, took the disc out. let it cool of for 10 mins, put game in this time it froze when i pressed 'A' on the team schedule to play michigan.

now i took the game out and its been like 15 mins, im goin try right now as speak again.......

......
ok, this time i put the game right when it loads dynasty mode THE VIDEO GOES OUT!!! WTF


what do i do??? i think the drive is overheatin!!

does anyone think its a laser problem or dvd drive problem?

before i flashed my xbox, it use to sctratch up my originals (not terribly, but to the point where i couldnt play madden without worrying if it was gonna give me the 'disc unreadable error' i replaced my madden 07 3 times because of this)

that was just a a bit of info that i thought might have helped.

nothing to do with drive or laser !! its the 3rod it happens to all xboxes at somtime !! search for the x-clamp fix on this forum and google !! all the stuff you need can be bought from b&q/home depot for under £5/$10 !!!
