Ripped Cap- Corona V4

I have a customers console. He was trying to remove the post out adapter that was soldered in and ripped off a capacitor. I do not know if it is still good and the point is pretty messed up Im not sure if Ill be able to get the cap firmly on there. I am not a beginner solderer so I know how to do difficult tasks. Does anyone have any suggestions or know the type of cap I should get or how I can fix this spot?

I don't know why my picture is so small and not expanding. Let me know if you are having to much trouble seeing it. The resistor that is ripped is the right one closes to the cgpu chip.

The pic is too poor of quality to be any use.

And to add a hint, when a component identifier begins with a "C" it's a capacitor. When it begins with an "R" it's a resistor. They are also different colors. Resistors are black and caps are tan. The only way you can know if it's good is to put a multimeter on it to measure capacitance.

Not to be rude but you should know the basics before taking on "customers".

That's why I never solder the post fix to the board Cap-Com tape it down.. done it lots
I even had that same SMD cap float away on my rework machine because led solder was applied before
if there is any pads remaining I would not attempt to install with out a hot air wand station!! Solder Iron wont cut it

If the pads are there it's an easy fix, if they're not it's going to be tricky. What else can I tell you?
The pads are there but barely. I do not think a repair on this exact spot would be the best way unless there is no other way to fix it.

you can use a soldering iron perfectly fine to fix that you just have to know how to use one to beable to.

No that is not true. Please don't post spam if you do not know what you are talking about. One side of the pad is too messed up.

I am trying to ask if anyone knows if there is a trace that goes to the cap or if there is a way to repair alternatively (NOT USING THIS PAD). If all else fails I will result to using 30awg wiring but trying to see if there is a better way first.

Re: Ripped Cap- Corona V4

Which pad is ripped? The ground or the one with the tiny trace?
Both pads were pretty messed up but I was able to somewhat fix them with 30awg wire.

Can anyone tell me what the cap value is and which pad is GND?
I would gladly do this with my multimeter but I gave it to a buddy a week ago and it still has not been returned.

If I cannot salvage the cap the customer ripped off I am going to pull one from a old Phat console so once I know the cap value can someone give me suggestions to where one would be on a phat console (may be able to figure out on my own).

Re: Ripped Cap- Corona V4

I'd go as far to say that the surrounding caps are the same value and probably near the value of the caps close to the GPU and/or the CPU on the Phat.

Re: Ripped Cap- Corona V4

The left side is ground The main thing is not to short across that cap
You would probably blow a mofset ..The way I measure the small caps is solder one leg to one pad just for holding and test with a capacitance meter
I just use a cheap ebay meter 15 bucks, My guess that that console would still turn with out that cap installed
It is not like it completes a circuit or anything You should be OK with one off a Phaty just like Krafter said

I believe someone posted a while ago saying the value of the cap being 1k or around there can anyone confirm the value of this? I will be getting a new multimeter sometime this weekend or early next week but I want to start working on this thing and need to know what caps to get

I can assure you that the value of the cap isn't 1k (1000 farad, thats huge!). I can't say for sure but I'm
think all those caps are connected parallel to each other so if you get a replacement of the same value and size it could be stacked (mounted on top of one of the other caps).

Any suggestions with this? Trying to get it up and running. Would stacking a cap like Antalpromille said work? Willing to pay someone if they can help me get this going and repair the cap.

He didn't mention anything about a resistor. He's saying that he believes the caps are in parallel. That means that one side of all the caps goto point A and the other side of all the caps to point B. Therefore you could take another CAP of the same value and piggyback it on top of one of the others.
