X3 isn't hard to install.

Make sure you read the complete tutorial on how to install it on your version of the box before you start and just take it slow.

You should do just fine. If you don't, that is what the forums here are for.

NOW GO OUT THERE AND MOD THAT BOX! :)

Im pretty n00b here to the xbox scene but i have some experience i think i can share with you.

If you have never soldered b4, the soldering will probobly be very intimidating. dont worry though, though they seem small the pins (and rebuild board) are relatively easy to solder. Make sure u have some desolder braid just incase you bridge a connection. There are tutorials here that tell u how to do it.

after that you will have to get a bios for your chip (the x3 bios is recommended). Because most bioses are illegal i cannot tell u exactly where to frind them. Customize your bios to your liking.

If using the x3 bios use the automatically partition harddrive option. This will setup your required xbox partitions for you.

You need to find a dashboard now (if you are not running linux). Find it the same way you found the bios ^_~.*(xbins, cough)* If running the x3 bios its easy, extract the contents of your dashboard strait to your C: partition. If the .xbe file is called default.xbe rename it to one of the autostartup dashboard names in the x3 bios ( eg. avalaunch.xbe, evox.xbe, xbmc.xbe etc). People say Evox is the best for newbs, i would say avalaunch is pretty kool to start off with too (thats what i started with).

Try all the dashboards, all you have to do to run another one is use the file browser in ur current dashboard and run the xbe file for another dashboard.

Remember that if the dashboard u are using doesnt suit you, you can always edit the .xml files included to your liking.

good luck and happy modding

i would definitely read the install guide for the chip and know what version xbox u have ahead of time (1.6 and 1.6b need extra work)

also go ahead and get your bios and dashboard ahead of time. that way as soon as you get ur chip, you can start modding.

http://www.xbox-scene.com/articles/xbins.php There is a link to get you going after you have done your install.

Read the noob guide on the front page... Read lots of threads on these forums (ESPECIALLY THE STICKEYS) to get a feel of what problems others have experienced.

Do some research on soldering (if you are a beginner) especially regarding tinning wires, wetting the tip of the iron, solder guage (The thinner the better for this job). Clean your solder points with a fibreglass pen before you start (It really helps the solder to take properly). Use a low watt iron (15W) if you are inexperienced and my golden rule......DON'T keep the tip of the iron on the mobo for more than a fraction of a second....Yes...I said a fraction of a second. That's the way tracks are lifted.

Read everything again before you start and take your time....You can do it. Thousands have. Lot's have blown it by not reading and not taking their time.. PM me if you need any more help.

Cheers
