Hi everyone, I was working on a fat 360 that has error code 0031. It try's turning on and the fans spin for about a second and then nothing. I reballed the GPU and still the same deal. I'm sure it's not the ram and want to know what other people with this issue have done to solve it. Don't tell me to go get a new Xbox or anything like that because I have plenty and just repair them as a hobby. Also I'd appreciate it if you don't give me answers from google because the first thing I've done was search google. I want to hear answers from people that actually had this error before and what they did to fix it. Thank's.

Probably because really is a sh*t repair just saying it's the bumps in the actual pcb substrate not the solder balls 99% and the only real fix is a new bGA chipset

That's not it, I've repaired many consoles before with a reball and none have them have failed afterwards. Next response please.

I had this error once and the black plastic piece under the xclamp was broken and the xclamp was touching caps , replace xclamp all as good, other than that I would say gpu solder ball , give it a quick reflow with flux

Unfortunately the problem still persists after a reball and the xclamps are fine. I'm going to try the southbridge tomorrow and see if that solves it. Any other suggestions?

Are you doing actual reballs or just reflows with a heat gun?
Check for damaged/missing caps beneath the cpu and gpu.

if you are re-balling these bga chips what size solder balls are you using? and what/where are you placing the reball jig on top of? a table, a work surface?
the reason i ask you to check is because what i have experienced with a few 0031 errors was the work surface i was using to reflow the balls back to the chip whilst in the jig and reflowing the chip back to the board was out of level by a considerable amount of degrees. this usually wouldn't harm the the balls to the chip but certainly caused problems when reflowing the reballed chip back to the board. after the work surface was spot on level i didnt have anymore 0031's after that so worth getting your spirit level out

Its been reballed 3 times and it still has 0031 reflowed the southbridge and ram with no success... I'm getting annoyed with this and I've measured the mosfets as well as the capacitors and resistors under the GPU which all seem to read fine. I'm coming to a loss here and don't know what else to do. There isn't much info about this error besides the fact that it's usually caused by RAM or the GPU and want to know if there's anything else I can check.

Yes? All the mosfets tested fine. I probably should have posted this in a more advanced thread... All I want is suggestions of what the problem may be. I'm going to try the Hana next. Thanks.
