Hi people,

I have a question which just popped up after succesfuly JTagging a console which I would like to use for retreving the temperature information from my Xbox heatsink project. Normally I buy all my games legaly new or used. So I have no need for pirated games. But only for running my own code and temperature statistics. The idea is that Im going to use computer CPU heasinks with heatpipes to get the CPU and GPU temperture as low as possable.

So thats some background. now my question:
Is it possable to retreve a CPU key from a RRoD Xbox? the idea popped up becouse we see allot of videos with the so called "towel trick" and "overheat method". which is just letting the CPU and GPU overheat themself. but toughts are: Why are those processors even get warm? It should mean that they are actualy doing something right? but just showing no graphical information. it ofcourse will depend which kind of RRoD it actualy is. but just keep in mindthat the Processors are getting the right amount of power.

My suggestion would then be to retreve the CPU key from firefox or any other xml reader while the Xbox is in RRoD mode running xell?

I have some exploideble Xenons laying around which I only need a decripted nand copy from.

Yes and no. It all depends on the error. For example an E74 you could exploit and get the keys but an E10 then no. I can't say for sure but I'm guessing that it most cases, there would have to be a video output of some sort in order to get Xell to run.

Aah ok. My idea was that it was still running code while it is in RRoD mode. Otherwise I could not imagine why it is getting so warm while doing nothing. For example error 0102 or 0022 still let the CPU running warm. So it could be running the dashboard without showing any graphical I imagine. Just like running a server with no Graphics card installed. And like when the xbox is running a game and suddenly showing green lines and dots which indicates a disconnecting or malfunctioning GPU but it is still possable to continue using the xbox. So maybe it could be running xell with a GPU problem if the CPU is still oprational. Because in most cases the CPU is most likely to be operational while the GPU is malfunctioning.

but ofcouse it could be true that xell checks for video output functionality.
