S controller jewel

okay, so I am officially the noobiest of all newbies. I'm trying to get the jewel off of my S controller to put in a new one. I don't want to take apart the controller though because I will end up breaking it. (seriously. I have a friend modding my Xbox when I get the rest of the money for the Xecuter 3 chip I have my eye on) So I search around and search on so many websites, and I still can't find any help on removing this jewel. just the top jewel.

So here is my question:
1)Is removing an S jewel the same as removing a top jewel? If yes then don't bother explaining, I know how?
2)how do I remove it??

Okay, don't worry about breaking your controller. It's easy as pie to put back together.

You should begin by undoing the screws on the back of the controller and putting them in a safe place (they are small). Then, turn the controller upside down and take the top off. This ensures the buttons and stuff remain where they are supposed to be. Once you have the contoller top in one hand, take out all the buttons and rubber pads and place them in the bowl or tupperware or whatever you put the screws in. Then, you have the top all by itself. Heat the back up with a blowdryer or hot-air gun. Then, here's a suggestion that should work, in theory.

Take a very fine piece of steel, like a cheesy violin string or fishing line. First, wedge it up with the a knife, but after you get the edge up, put your line in it, and slowly snake it along. It should be able to break the glue without damaging the jewel.

However, if you're planning on lighting up the jewel, you have a little bit less to worry about. Just take a dremel to the back of the jewel holder very carefully. Make sure not to go too far with the dremel, but it shouldn't be too hard. Then, after you get a small hole, you can just push it out from the back. Plus, you got part of the dremel work done. Good luck!

Are you thinking of the original larger controller, linuxnoob? I got the S controller jewel out in 3 seconds with a flat blunt knife, it just peels of, the jewel in the s controller is like a piece of gel or something, it's soft. Then you peel off the paper on the back of it, dremel out the black plastic that it was placed over, leaving a 1mm edge to rest the jewel on when you glue it back. Solder a 5V 3mm or 5mm led to the left and right pins of the memory card port, (left is the ground, right is the +5V). The long lead of the led should go to the +5V, then shorter lead is the negative, so it goes to the ground. Use a black marker pen to darken the area of the back of the jewel so that the only light that comes through the jewel is the X logo and the XBOX text. Glue it back to where it was after and screw the controller back together.

This is MUCH easier than doing this mod on a large controller: you risk breaking the large controller when you bend it to get the jewel out. And with the S controller, you only need 1 led instead of 3 led's.

All you need is a black marker pen, screwdriver, flat knife, 15Watt soldering iron, dremel or a drill, and solder. If you're interested in modding, you need the above.

I got it off with a knife. But now I know what to do to light up my see through green one. Thanks.

Hey, did you know that if you have two jewels, you can stick them together with glue spray. I made a jewel coin. :D :D :D

Thanks freakzilla3333 and linuxn00b2004.

Next I just need to get to $60 and I can buy my Xecuter 3 mod. Hey, is it true you have to replace your hard drive to copy games to your XBox? I heard that somewher and if you have to, then I'm just gonna buy more skins an jewels instead.

You don't have to replace the HDD... however if you don't, you can back up like, 2 small games or one large game like Halo. Newegg.com has amazing deals on HDDs. Go there. Good luck!

Its only a big deal if you have been on live already. You will get banned after the swap. But if you havent, youre safe. Read tutorials by searching in the forums on how to setup the HDD after you buy it. Really simple once you have the X3 Chip. Youre about $150-$200 away if all you have left is the DD and X3. :D

I'm never gonna get my xbox modded, am I
I barely raised enough for the mod. And I only got so much saved up for it because it snowed like three times and we needed to paint a room.
:( :( :( :(

It'll take till summer to get there then. And I wanted it done soon so that my cousins will see it when they get back from equador.

Okay, looking for sponsors! Anyone want to buy me a new hard drive?

Just so I know how much money to shoot for, what hdd and mod chip do you most recommend? I want to store a lot of games on my xbox and I want to put some emulators, ROMs, movies, songs, and menus.

I buy it when I can get money. hehe. I'm a broke teen without a job and my parents won't let me work. They say that I don't need to have a job now because they pay for my things. Ironically enough, they won't buy me anything I want, just what they want. I've been craving a silver proffesional Bach trumpet for like, ever and they won't buy me one. As well as my chip, and all the goodies for my poor xbox, even games. Yet they are buying my sister a car when we have two and she lives at home so it's not like she needs it to go places like the groccery store or the laundramat or the liquor store....

So, anyway, I have a paypal account for no reason:( (ALL DONATIONS ACCEPTED)

P.S: I'm the good one too! she hits me sometimes and won't let me play the piano(she even broke it once) or do anything that I want to do if she doesn't want me to, and then gets me in trouble for it. She is such a brat. She has a job and she can pay for all her stuff, but instead she has my dad pay for it. She doesn't even do anything around the house. my mom asked her to clean up the table(there was like nothing on it) and instead she just sits there watching tv. So then my mom makes me do it and put away all the laundry. And now I'm ranting... a little off topic

When you get your chip, Learn to chip and customise XBOX's to a proffessional level like I do and get your mates to be customers. £20 fitting per chip instead of £30 in shops, that's how I get customers.
I customised my mate's XBOX recently and made £20. I have a long list of people who want chips fitting too. :D

A man walks into a chinese restaurant and orders peking duck.
"We have no duck today" says the waiter.
"Then I'll have crispy skinned duck."
"But, we have no duck today sir"
"Then I'll have duck soup"
"OK - how many f's are there in fish?"
"There is one f in fish."
"How many f's are there in giraffe?"
"There are two f's in giraffe."
"How many f's are there in duck".
"But, there is no f in duck."
"Thats what I have been telling you."

And the moral of the story? There is only one f in professional as well :)

OK I forgot to edit "proffessional", nevermind.
