I have installed the nandx qsb slim, havent soldered any wires to it to connect to CR yet,can I boot the console while the slim qsb is installed?

is it safe?
I will boot without the dvd drive would it cause any problems?

thanks

Yep go right ahead won't effect anything - that goes for both the QSBs and booting without dvd drive - normally the latter wouldnt be recommended but since you are going to RGH it anyway I guess it doesn't matter, unless of course you intend to dual-nand it in the future, but even then the nand could be cleaned before connecting to live.

thanks for the replies guys,by the way I am not sure about the connection just below the hana chip.because its hard to see.
the connection seems solid but it took me a while to make that connection so I am just worried about that one.

i did read the nand eventually but i was getting nand errors first, after a few tries it gave me matching dumps.

is it somehow related to nand reading or is it a connection that is related to coolrunner?

i am asking because if that connection is needed to read the nand ,then I can say that I have nailed it,but if its about the CR then I may have to DESOLDER the wires to the CR and motherboard just connect with wires which would take more time.

any way to be sure that my points are all ok?

Reading/writing the NAND has nothing to do with coolrunner. Make sure you have 2-3 matching dumps then proceed to next step.
no mate I am asking about the point where we solder the slim qsb,r3b15 just below the hana chip.

is this point used while we are dumping the nand.i am not sure if this point was well soldered cuz i had trouble doing it.
if r3b15 needs to be soldered correctly to read the nand, this means I have a good connection there on r3b15.

No that point has nothing to do with reading or writing to the nand. Yes it is safe to boot console with the qsb's in place. They're actually made to stay on the board.

No but if once you write your .ecc back to your nand you have glitching issues (no green blinking light) then it sounds like this would be a good place to start your diagnosis. A multimeter will help you out in this situation too to check how good you connections are.

should I check when the console is running or would it still have current when it s plugged in(noob at electronics),
should I look for a specific number in the multimeter, havent seen a guide for that so a full explanation would be spectacular

Well once you have written the .ecc to the nand, you will need to boot xell via the eject button, and in order for it to load up the console needs to glitch, so when powering up via the eject button keep an eye on the coolrunner and see if the green LED blinks every 5 or so seconds, if it does then that means it's sending the glitch signal to the CPU, and depending on a number of variables your console should boot into Xell within a short period of time, I would leave it for a minute before turning off and trying again. If after a few attempts you still haven't booted into Xell then it's time to start some diagnostics, but cross that bridge when you come to it.

If on the other hand you see no green blinking light then use the continuity tester on the multimeter to test between the B point on the Coolrunner and the pad on Stdby_clk. Pics of your install will go a long way too and is pretty much mandatory when asking for help about these issues :)
