Same modchip needed for hot swap?

My friend's mod chip is a xenium, and I have xecuter.

Is it completely necessary to have the same mod chips in order to hot swap, if not then, how do you complete the procedure?

hmmmm... before i obtained a programmer i hotwapped a 2.6 with a 2.3 and worked ok.

not sure about different manufacturers... let us know the results...
