Hey guys, just a quick one,
I have had my xbox modded with x3 for quite some time and everthing works peachy. However my Xbox DVD drive (samsung variant) does not read DVDr's. As this is noted as the better of the three types I was quite suprised that this was the case.
Im tempted to perform a tear down on it and give it a good clean to see if that helps any. What I really would like to know is, can you adjust the pot on a samsung drive - should I need to? I couldn't see any FAQ's or tutorials on one (only thompson and the like).
Anyone else had this problem (a link would be nice!) - i'd rather not replace it with a PC DVD if I can help it.

There is no "DVDr". Is it not reading DVD+R or DVD-R ? Also, is it a newer Samsung or an older one ? The newer ones have a "006" series number and the older ones have a "005" number. The older ones are much pickier about the media they will read. A lot of them will only read DVD-R. The newer ones should read any DVD+R or DVD-R.

Forgive me, I meant both DVD+R AND DVD-R, neither are being read.

The iso's are fine as they work on other xbox's without hitch.
I have had trouble, rarely, yet on occasion, with actual xbox discs (i have a feeling the laser is on the way out).
I guess i'm just trying to hang onto it as long as possible, I don't really fancy buying a new xbox and moving the board over.
If i do buy a new xbox drive - will it matter which one - I have heard that certain boards (mine is 1.1) only work with certain xbox drives...

Isn't the newer samsung a 605F rather than a 605B. I've heard the 605F's are not very good either.
